I know the Pate family, not personally, just in passing. You're right though, that family has lived in Van Buren County since the mid 1800's...

no kidding? That's insane.

I only knew David. I know nothing of the family, but he was a good person. Definitely saved face for the rest of the people I knew there.

cabot high school. 7A. lots of money. new and updated academic/sports/theater/dining facilities, very good agriculture program. forensics and debate programs are top notch. lots of support for or in just about everything. steve roberts is the athletic director. teachers go there and want to stay, which means they believe its a good job. little to no gang presence, also very close to little rock AFB, little rock and conway, and asu beebee is near too

If you are going by benchmark scores the best public school in the state is Parkers Chapel. Solid athletic record too. Several baseball state titles as well as golf and tennis. Basketball had both girls and boys in the state finals two years ago. Softball has a state title as well if I remember correctly. Football program is relatively young but in just 6 years of varsity ball already has two playoff trips and one playoff win.
Solid school all the way around.
I know it may not compare to the 7A powerhouses in the NW part of the state but it's a nice little school here in South Arkansas.

Despite the location, LR Central is probably the best school academically in the state.

Pulaski Academy is another good one. Average ACT score of 26.

I probably live closest to LR Central than any other high school (Not counting the Schools for Deaf and Blind. Go Deaf Leopards!) and I have to tell you that I get excited whenever I see the growth around Central. It has a long long way to go (and quicker authorization to bulldoze abandoned buildings), but there's money going in. The National Park Center helps, too.

UNRELATED: I feel like this is one of those Arkansas Board threads that lets people give off little personal tidbits and people find out they have mutual friends or whatever. I wonder if the other boards do that as much.

No, my mother passed away in 2005, she was the last one still living in Clinton. All my other relatives live here in Central AR. You might know my parents or at least know who they were. Mom was Deputy County Clerk and step dad was Chief Deputy Sheriff...

Took to long for Central to get mentioned. I remember the role calls during football games.

Also I'm gonna say ASMSA is the best. At least, they have the best students. Average ACT composite is nearly 29. But then again, they get to recruit.

The NWA (Bentonville, Rogers, Fayetteville) schools and Central are all really good public schools. Can't go wrong with any of them.
