Most of the sec has shitty qb play though.

Taking good qb play for granted is just silly.

Then again i grew up when a completion was something to celebrate.

Eta ex. Tenn app state. Dobbs was terrible but tenn won in spite of him

This year arkansas' pass pro is atrocious yet AA won in spite of this.

I get that "oh if AA played worse we lose more" but were speaking of relative qb play compared to average or subpar qb play, and its effect. To say AA is a system qb or that he isnt the difference just doesnt sit right with me.

AA doesnt have to take these beatings, he wills arkansas to win and takes them bc of it.

Thank you I appreciate it. If you stick around long enough you may get to give being right a try yourself.

No not at all.

I believe the record shows that the overwhelming majority of us on this board thought that QB play would be the major catalyst to what this team could/would do.

I think we've undersold Austin a bit. I put up a piece about Austin already being a top QB in the SEC after the first game.

I bitched a bit too much that Storey wasn't getting any in-game reps, after seeing him fumble nearly immediately after getting in against Alcorn St. It was apparent that despite my belief that we should be prepping a back up for the just in case, we don't have a back up that's capable of stepping in. No need to burn Cole Kelley's RS year unless Austin gets a season ending injury, which with this OL you never know.

Anyone that isn't happy with Austin's performances, let me remind the lurkers again that at FHS it was Austin that led come from behind wins in the state title games, not Brandon.

Okay people was it wrong to question a first year starter?

The entire basis for not liking Bert's decision to name AA, starter was either based solely on the fact that he was Brandon's brother (and therefore shown favoritism)

Or

Some kind of bias towards one of the other QBs.

Considering AA has been there longer (and therefore should know the playbook/system better) and we had no other college film of the other QBs, it's logical to trust in the coaching staff to put the best QB on the field.

Obviously they saw AA was far ahead of the competition early in the spring and the other guys simply weren't going to catch him this year.

So yes, it was illogical to question AA as starter based on all that. And unfortunately the backup couldn't go 3 plays without fumbling a handoff.

People in the valley said Wilson would beat out Mallett too.

Storey has potential.

After the forgettable QBs trotted out from the 80s to 2008, I'm not going to bitch about a decade straight of high caliber QB play and good capable QBs having to wait their turn.

Ok, I thought that I would ask since half were taking it that way

Ya, I think most were holding their breath when he was announced that starter so early. It feels great to be so positive about the QB position. Many SEC teams would love to have what we do with Austin. Just need the Oline and Defense to continue to get better.

I went to Greenwood. Saw Wilson play and knew he'd be good but I never for a moment thought he'd beat out Mallett.

College QB is complicated. There are a lot things they have to learn that has nothing to do with passing:

Getting the plays to the huddle
Reading the defense
Making checks (shifting protection for linemen, changing protection for RB/FB, changing routes for WRs/TEs)
Taking the snap
Proper mesh point on run plays and play action

To expect anyone to come in and win the job from a starter or with multiple years of experience is silly imo.

My post history will show that I wasn't high on Storey and believed him to be an early bloomer that has simply physically advanced over his 3A competition.

There are untold how many posts that I explained what I didn't like about his Hudl tape. He's a statue. He got ran down by slow 3A level defenders. He tossed floating balls up for grabs way more than he threw darts or threw guys open.

I was all over a kid out of Florida named Ryan Stanley who was tearing up 7A ball leading his HS to their best records in their history. He played a lot like Manziel at A&M. Hopefully we'll see him in Little Rock next season and him and Alex Wood don't catch Bert napping.

I'm having trouble finding where he says he's upset about this. It sounds more like he's giving AA props.
