We're definitely not where I expected us to be. I expected us to win at least 2 or 3 conference games this season and I honestly don't think we'll win any.

When Joe Kines replaced Jack Crowe after losing to the Citadel, I got glimpses of hope. I saw hope that first year in the SEC because I saw Joe Kines and his staff put the fire back in a team a lot of people were saying had very little talent and couldn't compete in the SEC. Our recruiting had truly taken a terrible hit the last couple of years before entering the SEC. It was a much worse than what we've seen recently. That team ended up winning 3 conference games and beat a highly ranked Tennessee team that year.

It's not our players I'm concerned about. I'm looking for a sign of hope with this coaching staff and I haven't yet seen it.

I think that's because you underestimated how good Ole Miss and Auburn would be this year. I personally thought we would lose to Ole Miss, but I did think we'd beat Auburn. I thought that because I didn't realize how experienced their team would be, and because I didn't consider the fact that Gus Malzahn had recruited for his offense and would have many of his players there.

I also didn't realize how young we were going to be. I guess I should have, but I didn't consider it.

I predicted this as a 5-7 year with 4-8 the worst case scenario and 6-6 the best. I thought we'd beat Rutgers, and I think we would have with BA, so I can't say I'm really surprised with how this season has gone.

I will say that the biggest disappointment has been how poorly we were beat by South Carolina. I expected that game to be more competitive, but we had a tendency to fall apart in the second halves.

Heading back from Bama. In Columbus, MS.

I have to confess.

Mike Gundy, Art Briles and Gus all look pretty good right now.

I knew Ole Miss would be good. Auburn has surprised me though because I really didn't expect to see that much improvement in them each week, especially with Marshall. He's been well coached.

Mostly I'm surprised with our poor play.

Of the new coaches hired, ours seems to be the ONLY one that is showing NO improvement. He may turn out ok, but so far he hasn't done shite to impress. #Karma

I think if we would have hired Gus we would probaly win a couple more games this year.

I think long term we are better off with BB. This team lacks talent in the Junior and Senior classes because of poor recruiting and attrition.

In a couple of years we will have a O-line with talented upper classman and hoefully a couple of SEC linebackers and defensive backs.

BB history shows his program is more sustainable.

The thing with spread guys, is its either feast or famine. This is very apparent when you see aTm without JFF on the field.

I feel like Alabama and LSU are always good because they stick to the basics and don't get cute. One year in a spread offense and you don't have a QB to run it and you're toast.

Or if you're good enough, you can get a defensive back from Georgia and turn him into a QB and win games. Time will tell.

I'm just not a fan of finesse football.

I think that's the biggest problem with Texas and aTm right now. Finesse offenses bread finesse defensive players.

It does seem that way. I wonder why? Defensive neglect by offensive minded coaches?

Something like that.

I look at it as "patty cake" on defense and with Olinemen.

There isn't downhill, pissed off blocking taught at many high schools anymore. Those Texas Olinemen are taught to mainly pass block from junior high on up. When is the last time Texas or aTm have had great defenses or defensive lines?

I can't remember. You can go back to OUs last national title in 2000 or so, since they recruit a ton of Texas kids....it's impacted the Sooners as well.

Look at our best Dlinemen....BJones is from small school JC who ran the wishbone while he was there....Robert Thomas is from Muskogee OK, who were a power run team....Demarcus Hodge is from Neville(?)....everyone in South Arkansas knows about Neville.

Now look at the linemen from spread offenses....Ollison, Smothers, Cook, who aren't exactly lighting their position on fire

We're still pretty much exactly where we expected to be.

Last year we went 4-8 and we lost our most talented players. We have zero depth and are the youngest team in the SEC. We have TWO true freshmen starting on the offensive line. We have no linebackers.

I'm just curious as to what you expected? Also, it takes time to build depth from nothing.. but given the contributions of this last freshman class already I think a lot of folks just need to shut up and be patient.

Nutt started 8-0. Look at how that ended up.

Auburn is one of the four MOST experienced teams in the SEC. Arkansas is the LEAST experienced team in the SEC. The other top 3 most experienced? Mississippi, Tennessee and Mississippi State.

What we're experiencing are the pains of a transition year after dealing with very poor recruiting classes and having to learn to play defense. It has become pretty obvious that Bobby reached his ceiling here. Gus Malzahn still hasn't beaten a solid team. They needed poor officiating and playing to injure to win against A&M. (I might remind you that we were in the A&M game only we committed turnovers and they did not)

i can agree with all this

but...

I will not at any point support Gus Malzahn at Arkansas because he plays a brand of football (cheating, not the spread) that is unacceptable.

for myself, if at some point we end up with gus, I'll fully support him
