He ate his way into a TE.

When he was originally offered he was a tall WR with decent speed...

The Northwest Quad does have a pretty good cafeteria, lots of pastries and such. Too bad he didn't use a little more self control.

Fayetteville talent.

I'm having a difficult time remembering a FHS product not named Brooks Ellis or Davor Rimac that lived up to their hype.

Zack Clark? He was "meh"

It's the bull crap 7A football....I'll say this until they change the damn format...it's killing talent in this state.

7A football in NWA is a bunch of white kids with a few Mexicans mixed in for the most part.

Our state needs to go to at least 30 teams in the states largest classification.

This. It's absolutely ridiculous that Farmington is going to be playing conference games in Little Rock and Harrison next cycle instead of playing Prairie Grove.

I stand by the previous statement. He's got the journeyman label while Joe Johnson has one the craziest contracts in sports and baby Conley is an All-Star too.

However, the best Fayetteville product wasn't really even looked at by Nutt and the MSM. Mike Brisiel has been a NFL starter for about 6 seasons.

In my lifetime the coaches at Arkansas don't really have the best track record when it comes to homegrown talent. Typically, if they're a blue chipper they go out of state or our coaches miss on the evaluation and give the scholly to a Texas or other out of state kid instead.

That's bullshite and you know it, Ronnie Brewer produced both in college and the NBA, he's still in the NBA at that in his 8th season.

I wouldn't say he has produced in the NBA.

But he is in the NBA. How many other Arkansaa towns have 8 year NBA vets?

Little Rock
Junction City has a more talented player in the NBA.

I live up here in NWA, but much of the high school talent is a mirage because of their lack of competition.

I'm not sure why anyone would argue that.

In basketball?

I mean there is only a player every few years that has interest from the major programs, a few end up at mid-majors, one is at Belmont for example.

LR is a basketball town.

With Basketball and Baseball there are summer leagues where you can better gauge the talent against other good talent from across the region/country. You don't have this luxury with football, summer camps for individual work outs is all you can do.

Patrick Beverley starts in Houston, Brewer gets mop up time behind Harden and Lin. He's playing 4 minutes a game and hasn't scored a point yet this season.

I think he was brought in to be a defensive guy, but I don't know why he would've signed with the rockets knowing there were 2 players in front of him with big contracts. I think he's got some of that Julian Horton just glad to be on the team and living the life attitude.

Of course If I could bounce around a pro league, play minimally, get paid pretty well, and not have to work a real job in my entire life if I plan my money well. Sign me the frick up.

If we're being honest here, the only reason he's still in the NBA is his willingness to sign on the cheap. His 2 yr contract with Houston only came with $100K in guarantees, that's basically giving pocket change to a bum outside the arena in the NBA. He's been a throw away player tossed in on trades for his low cap space. He's truly an Arkansas kid, his best asset is that he'll work for cheap and play defense in practice.

Still, you said "live up to the hype" and mentioned Rivac.

Brewer more than lived up to the hype for the UofA, he was a stud here and that led to him being a Top 15 pick in the NBA draft.

Always loved Brewer, one of my favorite Hogs. Absolutely lived up to the hype.

Just off the top of my head, Pine Bluff with Andrew Lang, 12 years.

All the Jones boys (Major, Charles and one other I think) from down in deep SEARK (Rohwer)

Didn't Michael Cage play for like 15 years?

Pippen hung around the league for a bit.

Fish might hang around another 3-4 seasons.

And none of those three had Arkansas offers. Of course Pippen didn't grow until he got to UCA as a walk on. Eddie Sutton didn't recruit worth a dang his last few seasons it seems. Somehow Keith Lee and Cage got away.

My point Cheshire is that NWA talent is a bit overrated because of the competition.

Mainly on the football field, but as you have shown, there is only one player who has had any real success at the UofA in any major sport.

For example, Junction City. Since 2002 they have put out Kevin Payne, who was not offered by Arkansas and played at ULM. Started two seasons at safety for the Bears. James Anderson, went to Oklahoma State and is now a scorer in the NBA. Byran Jones, starting DT at Arkansas. Alan Turner, best safety on this team(not saying much I know). Jamario Bell, the next prospect.

A town of less than 1k has put out more top flight talent than damn near all of NWA.
