In basketball, Mike has had to keep guys he probably would not have due to the APR, one guy flunking out can do far more damage to the program than in football. The other issue is he was forced to keep all the guys who Pel signed in his first class, 5 total or 39% of the team in one class. None of those guys had offers from him while at Mizzou, Madden was the only one I can recall him having interest in, Young he had no interest in. All of this basically set the timeline back one year, year 3 and he has only 2 recruiting classes on campus and has added 2 transfers to make up for that first class.

Dale, you pretty much said what I was thinking as I was reading. MA's style and philosophy probably takes longer to implement than most other coaches. Add to what you said about the players he inherited the fact that to run his system, you have to have 8, 9 or 10 guys that can all do it and do it equally well. He's at a point where he probably has half or just over half that number. Another year of getting players that fit his system and he'll have the depth he needs. Even if the players he inherited were good players, if they don't fit his system, they make the system fall apart.

It's easier said than done, but I truly believe, given time, MA will have Arky winning and in the tourney with a brand of basketball that is exciting 90% of the time and head scratching 10% of the time, but in the tourney none the less.

We'll see, time will tell.

But I will say this, MA's system is fragile. Every team gets cold from the perimeter and needs to be able to pound it into the block during those times, whether it is a motion offense, flex, set plays, triangle, Princeton, etc..... MA is incapable of coaching those skills, nor will a bunch of guards and forwards provide the right balance. There is no physical inside presence.

Personally, I think he's gotten complacent. He's shown he can build and sustain a program in much tougher conferences.

I feel like he got the job he always thought he deserved and got comfortable.

I don't disagree SLC. At least what you describe is exactly how it was when he was at Mizzou and that lead to the other 10% of the time. We'd win our share of games and do it in an entertaining fashion, but I never got too excited about tourney time because inevitably, teams that rely so heavily on outside shooting go cold and lose a game. But, the style will get you there more years than not once he has his players in place.

Why Alandise Harris ever sees the floor?

Why Moses doesn't see more time?

Finally someone sees what i see. MA is basing Alandise off of one game when he was with Houston! Harris absolutely destroyed us that game. But as a hog fan, if im screaming "get the ball out of his hands" every time he touches it. Then obviously he is not a good basketball player. He has the most unorthodox shot ive ever seen.

Dude's not completely without talent. I think he would destroy lower classifications. He just doesn't have the size to match his skill set.

He's good when doing what he's capable of doing, when SEC play started for some reason he decided he needed to do more than he is capable of.

He could easily be a Charles Thomas type player for us, he is capable, by that I mean an undersized (by height) 4 who can muscle his way inside for rebounds and easy points, that is his skill set.

He is trying to show he is a stretch 4 which he is not.

Add in the fact that Anderson let Watkins take a trip to Paris fricking France on the recruiting budget's dime in the name of scouting. I think we need to clean house with the buddies and nephews that aren't high level assistants and recruiters.

Watkins is suppose to be an ace recruiter, but he is no Scott Edgar. He is responsible for most of the talent at a&m that allowed BCG to become the focus of a circle jerk at Arkansas and Kentucky.

Matt Zimmerman is a very good coach, he's the only one on the staff I would say is a "must keep", very hard worker.

Watkins needs to get his arse in gear on the recruiting trail or he needs to be replaced with and Edgar type that can get the job done without getting caught, we do not need a Cyprien type that draws attention and gets our wrists slapped by the NCAA.

IMO, he was more important to Nolan's success than MA, and I am not saying MA was a slouch or anything but just stressing the impact Scott had.

Harris averaged double figures that year, so its not like he was productive in just one game. Now, I and others probably got a little too caught up with that game.

There was a lot of talk, from MA, the fans, press, about harris being the guy that helps us win road games and take the next step. Maybe that pressure is getting to him, making him feel like he has to push his production instead of settling in, I don't know. He's certainly capable of doing better.
