As The Joker said, what's your point?

I don't actually disagree though. Collins is great at being patient and finding the best seam to run though. He's a very good RB and we're lucky to have him.

However, we do lack a RB who can make things happen on his own and I think that changed our offense this year. Jwill is that type of RB, even without the breakaway speed.

This is a topic that's been discussed ad nauseam on Arkansas boards and I just don't get why you'd bring it up now? There's always a disagreement and I have to admit that I do find the wide range of views on Collins' ability interesting, though. I mean, this is a guy who was rated the top RB in the nation by 247 out of high school, so some people obviously consider him great.

Meh... Its a message board for discussion shtuff...

He brought up his opinion, don't agree but who gives a rip.

Slow night anyways. Would you rather discuss that abomination of a trophy?

It's so odd to me that people will say a back like Knile Davis is better than AC3. Knile had great speed and size but very rarely "made things happen on his own." Collins consistently makes guys miss one on one and gets an extra 5-10 yards. To me, that's exactly what you want out of your back.

I will take a quick/shifty back with good vision over a guy who gets by on pure speed/athletecism any day. The AC3 type back is more consistent and tends to be injured less.

It's a board for discussion.

Mostly though it's just weird to me that Alex Collins, if he stays, will pass DMac for the all time rushing lead at Arkansas and will be 2nd in the SEC behind only Herschel Walker.

PEDs aside, I think the best baseball comparison I have for him would be Rafael Palmeiro. He was good, but not great.. and he stuck around so long he had hall of fame numbers but you never really thought of him as a hall of fame player.

I think a large part of the problem with our record is the inability of our running backs to be game breakers.

I think you have to put it in to context. He would only pass DMac because he would have been here for four years. If DMac had stayed for four years then he wouldn't be anywhere remotely close to the record.

Similar to BA breaking Ryan Mallett's TD record. Ryan set that record in 2 years versus 3 for Allen. Let Mallett play one more year and Allen isn't even in the same time zone as it.

With that being said, AC3 is a great RB. If it was easy to put up 3 straight 1,000 yard seasons in the SEC then more folks would have done it than just 3. We aren't the first team to run the ball a lot in this league so we're not doing anything ground breaking to put up those yards. He's just consistent at what he does and I think we'll miss having him next year.

The thing about Allen though is that he's about to break Mallett's single season TD record and that his numbers are better than Mallett's best season.

which is a bit nuts if you think about it

Alex hasn't look quite the same lately, season has worn on him. Turf toes, ribs and just general accumulation of hits... Although MSU defense had some to do with it, we didn't see a close to 100% AC in my opinion.

I sat by him on the plane to Miami last year. He and an underclassman DB I didn't know. It was the day after the Texas Bowl and I was headed to the Orange Bowl. That guy has it together. Extremely courteous and all around great guy. My buddy and I begged him to come hang out with us and we'd get him a ticket to the game. We had a limo to take us to the stadium. He declined and said it sounded like a bunch a trouble in the making. I can respect that. And it was true.

I wish he was on State's team this year.

The only thing AC doesn't have is elite top end speed.
Other than that he has good vision, can catch, block, plays hurt, and has a good attitude with can't be stated enough.

AC has uncanny ability in turning a one yard run into a 4-5 yard run in traffic inside the tackles.

If we don't recruit a top notch RB in this class and if RW can't return

it's going to be very obvious to all that this uncanny ability is missing from the running game.

It was pretty cool. He said it was his first trip back to Miami since going to Arkansas and he had a lot of catching up to do. We watched the Music City Bowl on the plane. He was very complimentary of State's team. I have much respect for him.

Sounds like Emmitt Smith. You know, the NFL's all-time leading rusher and 3 time Superbowl champ.

I thought so. He's shiftier than Emmitt, but it's the same style.

I know you guys hate this thread.. but I wanted to just toss this in here:

LINK

Alex Collins*, RB, Arkansas
Height: 5-11. Weight: 216.
Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
Projected Round (2016): 2-3.
12/5/15: In 2015, Collins has averaged 5.8 yards per carry on his way to 1,392 yards with 17 touchdowns. He has 13 receptions for 95 yards, too. Collins is a tough downhill runner that isn't overly fast or physical. In speaking with sources, they say that Collins is a good player, but not special, and that is why he's more of a second-day prospect.

congrats on discrediting your own OP. All of the RBs you said are "better" than Collins except DMC and Felix either went after the 3rd round, or weren't drafted.
