Arkansas' first practice is today and several invited walk-on's will get a chance to show what they can do including a junior college teammate of Jeremiah Ledbetter.
Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College wide receiver Jovante Siglar, 6-2, 180, caught 10 passes for 99 yards for his team last fall. Ledbetter signed with Arkansas this past December and now Siglar joins the team. He will practice today. He played high school football at Blue Valley North High School in the Kansas City area.
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy cornerback Reid Miller enrolled this past January and went through spring drills. Miller, 5-9, 193, had some impressive moments in the spring.
On offense, some other newcomers today in addition to Siglar are Prosper (Texas) wide receiver Zack English, 5-8, 175; Corning (Ark.) offensive lineman Klint Harvey, 6-6, 344; Rogers (Ark.) Heritage tight end Howie Stettmeier, 6-4, 242; and Blanchard (Okla.) long snapper George Madden, 6-1, 226.
Harvey was impressive at Arkansas in the past summers during football camps. He got a lot of work with Sam Pittman through the years and is someone, who in time, is expected to help the Hogs.
On defense, Camden (Ark.) Fairview cornerback Byron Keaton, 5-10, 174 and North Little Rock (Ark.) linebacker Tyler Phillips, 6-1, 222, are expected to also play key roles at some point in future.
Keaton was a 3-star recruit with 247Sports. He came to a camp at Arkansas and was the only defensive back able to cover Smackover (Ark.) wide receiver Jordan Jones, who is a Class of 2016 commitment to the Hogs. Keaton had four interceptions as a senior and six in his career.
Phillips attended The Opening and is an outstanding athlete. Phillips also was a 3-star recruit with 247Sports. As a senior, he had 114 tackles, including 22 for loss and five sacks. He also added one interception, eight pass breakups and one defensive touchdown.

Three Things You Need To Know
1. Some of these guys are HUGE
In case you didn’t know, the Razorbacks have some big boys. There’s just something about the huddle breaking and seeing tight ends Hunter Henry and Jeremy Sprinkle lining up as eligible receivers. They are 6-5, 253 pounds and 6-6, 255 pounds respectively. Add in an offensive line which averages over 325 pounds per player and some physical running backs and that is scary.
It’s not just the starting offense that is big either. True freshman Derrick Graham looks incredible for a linebacker at 6-4, 247 pounds. Another true freshman, wide receiver La’Michael Pettway, is 6-2, 205 and used his big frame several times to go get balls in traffic during his first practice.
2. The wide receivers
Senior Keon Hatcher is clearly the leader of this group. Hatcher is so consistent and reliable that he didn’t drop a single pass this afternoon. Sophomore Jared Cornelius also had a productive day and was consistent from start to finish.
Everybody wants to see Dominique Reed, the junior college transfer with wheels. Not only can Reed run, but he’s also very long and super athletic. He juked a defender out of his shoes today to get up field after a reception and also seemed to adjust to the ball nicely in the air.
3. Playmakers in the secondary
Arkansas returns all but one starter from last year’s secondary and the experience showed on day one. Junior cornerback DJ Dean made a couple of excellent reads in team drills, breaking off his coverage to make a diving pass breakup on a pass intended for the tight end. Junior Jared Collins and sophomore Henre’ Toliver also played well in coverage.
A player to keep an eye on is redshirt freshman Santos Ramirez. Now playing safety, Ramirez made a perfect break on a deep pass over the middle, timing his break in front of the receiver to intercept the pass with a convoy of teammates to block his way down the field.

Interesting. That is way better than what they put out in the spring or last fall. Thy must have someone new doing it.

Agreed. Looks terrible. I legitimately wanted to see Kendrick Edwards's catch at full speed, but it just looks weird like that.

My God the arse chewings that would have been dealt if this happened during a Petrino practice.

Interesting. Aside from his run in with the law, we haven't heard much from Beanum, so I'm interested to see if he takes that next step. Either way, that's a heck of a two deep.

Ramirez is someone I'm really excited to see this year. He looks like an SEC safety, and he was great in the spring game.

Howie Stettmeier might end up a superstar w/ our fanbase.
Funny name + how we use our TE's + Bert's trickery doo = fanbase favorite.

really hope we don't regret this. You're cutting out some installation time by doing away with two a days.
I'm glad they did away with 2-a-days. They are pointless now that everyone is on campus year-round. Installation shouldn't take a hit, they'll have plenty of meetings/film time in the next 2 weeks

That's a very good point about everyone being on campus year round. Even 5 years ago that probably wasn't the case.

Austin Cantrell is wearing #44. I absolutely love that. If you grew up in the 80's you know what that number means.

Syracuse retired and has now unretired #44.

I was thinking Johnston wore 44 in college but it was 32.
