You must run the wishbone: please select your offense from Alabama history

I go first.
2 RBs and a FB
but since the FB position is dying, we'll go with three slots.
Also, I like Barker or McElroy as QB of a wishbone offense (of the QBs who didn't just run it anyways in the 70s) smart guys who make good reads and are more mobile than you think. (though I think an athlete like Blake Sims would have been one of Bryant favorites)
Mark Ingram (reliable)
Shaun Alexander (all everything)
Derrick Henry (bulldozer)

I never like to compare eras. But in this case especially, it's basically impossible to know how non-wishbone players would do in the wishbone since it's so different than running in the modern spread offense. The biggest difference would be at quarterback - running the wishbone as a QB takes a totally different skillset than what it takes to be even a scrambling QB in a non-option offense. As for the running backs, they would be operating in a system where they start in a three-point stance (totally changes your start to a play and acceleration) and they need much more awareness than in a conventional offense.
It seems like you're more asking "Who do you think are the three best running backs in Alabama history?" But I can't even pick. They've had so many greats at that position - it's been a strength even in down years.

If you're running the Wishbone, I'll take Wilbur Jackson and Johnny Musso at TBs, Johnny Davis at FB, and Richard Todd at QB...

FB - Ricky Moore
HB - Shaun Alexander
HB - Derrick Henry

I'm not sure what running backs I'd want, but since Walter Lewis wouldn't qualify for the question as noted, then Blake Sims, Tyler Watts, and Jalen Hurts would be the qbs on the squad. In fact, that sort of offense would be what Hurts is best at.
oops. The topic didn't exclude players who actually did play in the wishbone offense, but I'll leave it anyway, as my choices for those that did not.

I like those last two posts. Old school guys like me.
I'll go with Steadman Shealy at QB just edging out Terry Davis, Richard Todd, Jeff Rutledge, and Walter Lewis. I'll go with Todd as my backup.
At FB, really only 2 choices and both were beasts. Ricky Moore and Johnny Davis. Calvin Culliver and Steve Whitman also deserve consideration.
At HB, there's Wilbur Jackson, who STILL holds the ypc record at Bama with a 7.2 yard average and he played in the early 70's; Tony Nathan, Major Ogilvie and Johnny Musso.
That's my two deep.

I like this post. Really got me thinking.
At QB I have to have somebody that has run the wishbone. It takes time to learn how to make the reads, so I would go with Steadman Shealy. Sure, there are probably better athletes to chose from, but you gotta make the reads.
FB - Ricky Moore. Dude was a bruiser, could block, but later in his career was the featured back.
RB - Bobby Humphrey and Mark Ingram. Too many really to chose from. I could sub Henry in for Mark and be fine. Also could chose Tony Nathan or Johnny Musso.

One modern guy that was absolutely designed for the wishbone: Jalston Fowler. Nudie would have been a devastating wishbone FB.

Agree, plus he could catch the ball after the belly play was faked to him.

I would love to see the RBs we've had in the Sabah era play with those old tear-away jerseys.
But to answer the question, Shealy at QB, Fowler at FB, Ingram and Musso as the split backs.

QB- Watts
FB- Fowler
RB- Richardson
RB- Lacy
Also, because according to Darrell Royal, the bone was invented to guarantee one on one coverage on WR's give me Julio on that team as well.

I'm gonna keep it within 10 years and say Sims, Fowler, Lacy, Henry
Or sub out one of the HBs with Drake. Deadly

Sims and his deep ball would have been deadly from the wishbone.
