Disagree completely. I think the atmosphere there can be electric, UGA fans have been more welcoming than most SEC fans, and plus they have a beautiful campus.

Most overrated trip to me is Oxford. The Grove is nothing special and there's nothing special about the stadium or the town.

Yeah I didn't get checked for the USCe game two weeks ago. I didn't bring anything anyway because I was trying to sober up.

They've changed it or this bertender fricked it up. It was really, really sweet. It had some kind of liqueur in it.

It's essentially a long island iced tea with an altered ingredient or two. At least that's what one of my friends who used to work there told me

Let me guess, you've only been once in 2003?

I was at the game in 2003 as a student. Fans were awful even as you were up 30. I went during the great "black out" but didn't have tickets. The fans still sucked. This time it was the older crowd. Everyone thought UGA was the best thing since sliced bread. The inferiority complex of the UGA fans was sad. I have no desire to go back. I've been to every SEC stadium except Starkville, Lexington and College Station. UGA was the worst followed closely by Gainesville

Oh I know. I've been there plenty of times before but it's probably been a decade since I've had one of those and it was just flat out bad.

It's funny that pretty much EVERY fanbase, to a one, says Athens is one of their favorite road trips and they love coming here and can't wait to return, but there's always 1 or 2 folks per fanbase that say it's hell on earth and grown men are pushing over strollers and spitting on grandmas and they'll never set foot in athens again.

Well, that could be said about just about all of the SEC schools. Some people love Tuscaloosa, some have had terrible experiences there. Some people love Baton Rouge, some have had terrible experiences there. Same for Auburn, Gainesville, and on and on. When you only go to another town once every few years, one bad experience can greatly cloud your judgment.

I've had zero bad experiences in Baton Rouge as a student and alum. I was there and drunk as hell when we won 31-0. I was there when we lost in 2000. I've been to the past two games in BR and had a blast. Got several tiger baits but everyone was welcoming and had a blast. I've been to several Iron Bowls at Auburn and had no issues. The only people that gave me trash were my boog buddies. One jerk in Gainesville threw a full beer at me as I was walking down the street and several told me to frick off. Cop saw what happened and drove me back to my hotel so I could change shirts. He then drove me back to the stadium. Columbia, Oxford, Nashville, Mizzou, Knoxville, etc. were all good trips.

Athens was a total shite show. Had freaking hot dogs thrown on me and buddies in the stands as Spencer Pennington and Brandon Avalos and the Tide were losing by 30. Grown a$$ redneck men telling me I had to pay $10 to use the port-o-lets along the road to the stadium. Several actually blocked it when I tried to enter. Friend's snooty parents not letting us have a beer or food at their tailgates because we were Bama fans. Students driving by after the game yelling at us to frick off and throwing stuff at us. It sucked. Again, the town is cool put my experiences have been bad. Not once was I doing anything other than cheering for my team.

To all,

The OP simply posted some information that may be helpful to those visiting for the first time or that may not know about some things. It was done as a friendly gesture.

If you have something to add that will help or enhance someone's visit, feel free to add to it. Or if there are known places/things to avoid. Otherwise, let's try not to delve into the typical SEC R behavior of it sux, you suck, your town sux. Thanks.

eta- I just clicked the last post to reply, this isn't directed at any one person.

Sorry Alahunter but my post was done as a friendly gesture (warning) to my Bama fans going to Athens. I don't care if I upset any UGA fans on this Alabama board. I won't post anything else on this topic

Hope all you Bama fans going have fun and enjoy your trip. ROLL TIDE1
