We just don't have the talent yet. We are getting some good looks, we just can't hit. Hopefully, we can continue recruiting at a high level. We need help.

Any of y'all old enough to remember the 87-88 team?

That was Wimp's only losing season at Bama. It was a lot like this - a squad of newcomers having to replace pretty much all the scoring and ball handling from the previous year with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores.

It was bad. Really, really bad - and that was with an already proven winner at head coach but the pain brought reward. They all grew up, finished 2nd in the SEC and made the NCAAs 3 years in a row.

If AJ can coach the Xs and Os to go along with the good recruiting work he's already doing, the pain of this season is going to be worth it in the end.

I'll enjoy the games even if we lose all of them. There is a clearly better gameplan going on.

The only positive I have is that we are set at the PG position with Ingram and Coleman. We might have one other player capable of being a role player on a good team

@CecilHurt: FINAL: Dayton 80, Alabama 48. Largest margin of defeat for UA since 3/3/01 (105-71 loss at Ole Miss)

I wasnt able to watch. Glad I wasn't. The "experts" are indeed correct. I was optimistic but this will be an excruciating rebuilding year.

Nobody could make a shot. It was nasty.
Got owned on the boards.
FT's are still a problem.

I know it was ugly on the radio. But I'm still optimistic that they can be a decent team this year. Dayton is a good team and the mistakes snowballed. I think they can reset and plug away at getting better.

Avery is going to have tough decision to make this year. We'd probably be a much better team if we slowed down the pace and tried to bog down games, but it could potentially hurt what he is trying to build.

We create a ton of good looks, but the talent to finish off those plays just isn't there yet. It was a worry I had watching the exhibition and the opening game. We had some serious scoring slumps in both. Losing Eubanks really hurt.

I didn't really get to watch a ton because I was either watching on my phone on the way to class or trying not to act like I was watching a basketball on my laptop.

Yep I 100% agree. I don't think it will take as long to really get going either with the class we have coming in next year.

We run a TON of good stuff already.

after reading this i'm almost glad i forgot it was on. but i'm with not sacrificing the next 3-5 years for this year. if aj has any kids that might deveop, then play them, now. take the lumps but keep on smiling and stay positive. thats easier when you let everybody know its an extended plan. not an immediate fix.

This season will be rough, but I think we'll improve this year. We won't be good this year, but we might sneak up on some people and win some games we shouldn't. Plus we always seem to be better by the time SEC play comes around.

Absolutely.

You've wasted a year to put towards building your system if you slow things down in an effort to maybe win two or three more games and avoid a few blowouts.

If AJ's plan works out, a couple of years from now nobody's going to remember or care if they finished 17-15 or 15-17 this season.

Avery Johnson said he had to put on his high tops and practice for about 25-30 minutes with his team to show how to pass to open windows.

Get in for $5 tomorrow. I hope the fans have still bought in, despite the blowout vs Dayton.

Also, not that anyone actually cares, the for the first time since '01, the women's basketball team has scored over 90 points in back-to-back games
