You can do that, but 15k would be way bigger than we would need for a hockey rink right now. Although we will probably have to remove seats to get the rink in.

Any chance of doing a multi-purpose arena in cooperation with Tuscaloosa and putting it somewhere off campus? It might help everybody out to do it that way. Just throwing an idea out there.

Kind of was hinting towards that just in case we do get a new b-ball arena. I have no idea where we would place a new arena, but it would just be great to get one. No reason for any of our programs to have bad facilities with the money coming in here.

CC could be kept solely for gymnastics. We consistently rank in the top 3 in attendance. I would hope it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for them to share the arena with the hockey program and give them a chance to grow.

I hate off campus arenas. I'd rather be stuck in Coleman for a lifetime than have an off campus arena.

ETA: You might be right that it'd be easier to get it done that way, but I think you'd get much worse student attendance.

I think we should partner with the city to build something on campus. Any athletic event will be better attended if it's on campus. We can still let the city reserve dates to use it when they want (within reason). I think everyone wins in that scenario.

See if the city would foot say, 35% of the bill for construction. Maybe waive some taxes. Having big events on campus that draws people from out of town still helps the city.

That's what I was thinking. Wisconsin's Kohl Center is home to their basketball's and hockey teams. Their basketball arena sits around 17k, and when they put in the hockey rink, the seating goes down to around 15k.

Say we do this for CC if they share between Gymnastics and hockey, it could be around 12k-13k for hockey. Wouldn't be too bad. Especially if they really started being competitive.

Unfortunately I think hockey provides a lot of logistics issues that will make it not become an official sport for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully I'm wrong

Maybe; maybe not. I don't know how many SEC teams have an on-campus hockey, so it would be cool for us to have that already. But I could see how it could create some problems. I would say if there are some conflicts in scheduling with gymnastics and hockey, the hockey team could just play in Pelham for those specific dates.

I know they're popular and would be even more so on campus as an school sponsored team, but

It's got a lot of expensive equipment for the team and of course the rink itself

I'd guess it's a fairly high scholarship sport probably 20+

The cost of travel would be more because they're aren't many NCAA hockey teams around here. What conference would we be in?

Very few youth teams in the area.

Don't get me wrong hockey is the sport I most wish we had, but I think men's soccer is probably the first sport up.

Most every high school around here fields a team now, and in North Alabama there are fields seemingly everywhere

18 full scholarships, but they can give up to 27 by giving everyone 2/3 scholarships.

I think we should get in contact with Arizona State and see how they have handled making the jump to NCAA.

If we show a real commitment to the team, I'm sure we could avoid being in the same conference as UAH and avoid having to go to Alaska multiple times.

Would help if we could convince 1 or 2 other legit southern schools to make the jump at the same time.

so you add 20 men's schollys you got to add 20 womens. Both sports would be non revenue sports.
