The nickle back is a big role in football now. They get taken in the first round now specifically for that reason.

Miller and Lewis both look to have added good weight. Feel better about OLB. Mayden looks the part as a corner. Love to see him lock down the Star and that would allow Brown to kick outside so Diggs can develop over time. I just can't get him getting roasted on repeat during A-Day out of my head as I picture FSU going after him again and again. I'd rather break Diggs in slowly if possible.

Knott from my understanding is still underweight and is shy to contact.

Levi looked very solid last year and has another spring under his belt.

And yes it may be an outlier but a walk on can make a nice contribution to even an elite team. Hell a 5'10 180lb goober in Hunter Renfrow has torched Bama two years in a row.

I understand you wanting Diggs to develop over time, and if you do, you should want Mayden or somebody to take over a corner spot. Tony Brown is not leaving Star.

I'm still baffled how many Bama fans think Star, or Nickle Back, is our 3rd best corner. It's not. Star is a hybrid position - sometimes corner on an island, sometimes extra run support in the box, frequent blitzer, and needs to be able to roam deep should the occasion arise. It also helps to have a mean streak.

Star is a harder position to fill than Corner, and TBrown is a massive asset and a future millionaire at that exact position in the NFL. Not one coach or player wants TBrown to move to corner. Why do some fans?

I agree with BPM.

Levi Wallace has played some good ball for Bama. Star ratings don't mean d1ck when the helmets get strapped on.

He really stood out to me in the small amount of time he was on the field. Wasn't he a walk on originally?

Is Geno Smith student assisting this year? That's him on the left isn't it?

The players look more fit this year then 07. Maybe he is just standing by the DB this year.

No. They're just more fit in general. The Shula hadn't been worked out of them in the 2007 photo.

Also, back in 2007 we still wore loose fitting stuff.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A familiar face led the inside linebackers through drills Thursday.

After tearing his ACL in the SEC Championship Game in December, being limited in Alabama’s 15 spring practices and working to be ready this offseason, Shaun Dion Hamilton was back at the front of the inside linebackers line to open preseason camp.

“It feels really good,” Hamilton said after practice. “It’s been a little while and I’ve put in the hard work to get back on the field, and I’m just happy to be out there with my teammates.”

Hamilton tore his ACL in the SEC Championship Game last season and spent the entire spring practice schedule in a black, no-contact jersey and on the sideline. The senior linebacker was cleared to participate in “football-type activities” in early May.

Now finally back in a crimson jersey, Hamilton moved well in his return to the practice field and will have no restrictions, head coach Nick Saban said. And he will be ready to lead the Crimson Tide’s defense in its opener against Florida State in a month.

The process back to full health was long, but it was well worth it.

“You’ve just got to embrace it,” he said. “You can’t get down on yourself. God does everything for a reason. So, it’s just how I took it. I embraced the grind and the challenge. You can’t feel sorry for yourself. You’re just going to lay there or do what you have to do to get back.”

One way the Montgomery, Ala., product was able to fully recover was through a new form of rehab at Alabama. With help from trainer Jeff Allen, Hamilton used virtual reality to bounce back.

“It was pretty cool, just a different form of rehab,” Hamilton said. “We have the best trainers in the country.”

Before his injury, Hamilton registered 64 tackles, which was good for the fifth-highest total at the season’s end. He also recorded nine tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions.

Entering his final season in crimson, Hamilton is set to be the signal caller of the Crimson Tide’s defense with Reuben Foster departing for the NFL. But he felt scorned in the offseason.

The disrespect and doubt at an all time high after you get hurt. SDH gonna leave his legacy I promise you that.
— Shaun Dion Hamilton (@shaundion11) July 14, 2017

Hamilton was voted to the All-SEC second team, while teammate Rashaan Evans was selected to the first team. Did people forget about the two-year starter after his knee injury?

“I don’t even care about all that,” he said. “I’m just happy to be back on the field with my teammates. I don’t get into all that. I mean, none of that stuff matters. I’m just happy to be on the field again.”

But Hamilton didn’t deny his tweet from July.

“No comment,” he said with a smile.

I still maintain that if he hadn't gone down against Florida we would have beaten Clemson.

If Hamilton and Jackson were both healthy for Clemson everyone would be talking about a possible threepeat right now. Losing them really hurt our leadership on the defensive side of the ball.

Definitely possible, but shite happens. If Clemson had Mike Williams in 2015 people would be talking about a possible threepeat for them right now.
