No idea. Just saw someone posted it on twitter about the follow. Someone probably just saw he entered the portal and went to check if he had followed any coaches or players from a certain school recently.

Yeah that makes sense. Either way is fine, I am glad for the info, just have wondered that.

I heard this from someone on the on3 Bama site but I guess its worth sharing too. Trent Perrys most recent follow on instagram is Preston Murphy. I dont buy into these things too much, but there is some smoke out there for us regarding Ballo and Perry, especially Perry. It may mean nothing though.

Grant Nelson was following mainly bama people for a couple of weeks before he officially connitted last year so sometimes you can read into it, sometimes it means nothing.

I do think we land Perry if Sears ends up leaving, not sure if we do if Sears stays but its also a possibility. I think they both could start. Perry would be a good 2 guard, not sure if he would be down woth playing the 2 though if Sears stays, Perry wants to play PG. We’ll see.

Someone grab Grant’s phone and follow a bench press machine real quick. I’m trying to see something

Nate Oats put out a Statement. He’s fully committed to Bama. Insider in BOL said he TURNED down Kentucky

We’re no longer at the place where we’re promising starting spots to top 50 freshmen, outside of the bonafide starter types. I doubt Perry would start either way, but definitely not if Sears comes back. Wrightsell or Griffen would play the 2 in that scenario. I think we’d grab a portal 1 to at least compete with Perry even if Sears leaves.

To me, this recruiting class could lay the groundwork for a future of Bama basketball where we get star players to stay and develop until they are ready for the NBA. We have 3 (possibly 4 if Perry commits) top 50 guys that could all realistically be backups next year if everyone comes back. That’s Duke and Kentucky level right there and it’s where we need to get to if we want the program to be a perennial Final 4 contender.

I would love to get the other Sears out of the portal to go along with Ballo!

Star recruits not waiting to get developed. I agree with you we need to get guys to stay here which has always been a problem for us going back to Mark Gottfrieds teams. Lets see if Kris Parker stays.

When I say develop, I really mean that
We need to get to the point where these guys are willing to stay until they are NBA ready. Davison left a year too early, Bediako left a year too early. Griffen and Nelson probably need another year and Stevenson probably needs two. These are what I mean for “develop”.

Perry, Cunningham, and even Sherrell are all probably two+ year guys and we need them to trust us to develop them in that time instead of jumping in the draft too soon or hitting the portal. Reid may be ready after just one year, but even he I could see needing another year to develop his shot more and be a lottery player.

You cant just abandon high school recruiting and go all out on the portal. Uconn this year for instance, Castle, Caraban, Clingan, Sampson Johnson were all guys they signed out of HS, Newton and Spencer were their two transfers. I think you still recruit hs players and develop them then add a couole of transfers when needed.

We’ve done really well developing high school recruits, Clowney, Miller, Primo, and they were all as good or better than any transfer we’ve gotten aside from maybe Sears.

Davison left 4 years too early. He still hasn’t really developed.

Trent Perry led his team to back to back state championships, he’s a winner, great shooter, won the mcdonalds all american 3 point contest, he is a big guard at 6’4 and is a good defender. He would be perfect for our system. I want him more than any guard we could get out of the portal.

I do like the other Sears the best out of transfer guards we have contacted.

I know Oats and company would benefit him in his development, but wouldn’t a full-time basketball job (even G league) allow you more opportunities to develop?

You don’t have school work, you play more games against better competition, you have more time to dedicate to basketball.

The only thing I don’t know is if there are more or less people dedicated to your development.

It’s a mixed bag. Most of the athletes aren’t exactly carrying a cumbersome academic calendar. You’re probably practicing more in college and the coaching is better at most top tier colleges.

You do get a chance to come up on 10 days and show you can hang in the NBA and that can be really beneficial if you show out in those situations.

Nil wasn’t really what it has become now. I think of Josh Hart and Brunson and I think they benefited a lot more from their time at Nova then they would’ve in the G league.

Trilly said Swope is following Indiana States coach to his new job to St Louis.
