Full Ride discussed it this morning, but apparently part of the USF focus was relaying signs and communications better. Rings alongside the Texas “we didn’t prepare well enough” comment from Saban.

They speculated this might be where the Kiffin comment about TRob came from. TRob likely was making quick judgement calls to the defense on Steeles behalf because Steele couldn’t communicate the plays.

He and Rees both need to get their asses down on the sideline. I hate having coordinators in the fricking booth.

Then perhaps Steele should be on the sidelines.

When did this booth trend start? with Sark or BOB?

Yes Sark was, but Bob didn't want the public arse chewing.

Damn, couldn’t get signals in?

How long has Steele been coaching?

The booth trend started around the time they started building press boxes in stadiums. Probably the only reason kiffin was on the sidelines, and sark, was because of their fast ball offense. Besides, we all know this is Kiffin running his mouth and is not validated information.

Agree, I think this team needs the coaches on the field till they settle down.

Anyone think they may have turned it over to TRob temporarily at USF because of the lightning in the area? They may not have been able to use the headphones for a long stretch of time due to lightning threat, might explain TRob calling it on the field.

Yep the only time Sark was in the booth was when he was an analyst. He’s always been on the sideline as OC…at least for Bama he was.

You want you best guy/guys at diagnosing what the other team is doing and scheming the answer up in the booth. He can then relay things down to the field. It doesn't help to have the world's greatest coordinator on the field if the guy in the box isn't able to diagnose what is going on. Coordinators don't need to be firing up players either. That is the job of the position coaches. They might tell the guys on the field to chew some butt, but they don't have to.

So Kiffin wasn't trolling after all...

Kiffen insinuated TRob was calling the plays based on the formations his staff was seeing, comparing them to what he has seen from Steele and TRob in the past.

That is very different from Steele sending the plays to TRob and TRob communicating them to the defense.

Agree.
Seems like a lame arse excuse. This isn't something that hasn't been addressed over the last 50 years of American football and the use of electronic headsets.

So a DC making about $2,000,000 and does not have to worry about one fricking thing but coaching defense has problems getting signals in on time? And somewhere there's a HS DC who makes $50,000 and coaches the OL and teaches math all day and has to handle Real World problems because he's not made of money who has figured that shite out.

Embarrassing.

I'm just curious how a coach who has done this for as long as Nick Saban has, is not identifying problems during scrimmages, you know, like every other coach in Division I.
