How the hell do you go from GOAT defense in 2011, add 3 number 1 classes, and can't stop anything n 2014?

We missed big time on some LB & CB recruits. Normally we have a 1st round pick at one of the inside LB positions as well as at CB.

ETA: We also refuse to play our blue chip young skill players on offense for some reason. No excuse for that team to bracket Cooper all night like that and not have to pay for it.

Being stubborn and only substituting DL. Evans didn't get one fricking snap.

This. Plus young guys like tim williams and evans on defense. I'm sorry for ever doubting cyrus Jones ( for now) but eddie jackson looked like shite outside his forced fumble.

Proud of the season. Better than expected. BUT, can you imagine if we had to start our 3rd string QB tonight what score would have been. No excuse for losing this game.

Kiffin blew it tonight. Kirby Smart has lost a ton of credibility this year. Remember when people thought he would replace Saban? We have the highest paid coaching staff in the country, and they sucked tonight. It's fair to call them out. I'm proud of the players, but our billion dollar coaching staff failed them miserably tonight.

This simply is not an elite Bama team. We knew this coming in. Still Saban's BEST JOB of coaching since he arrived.

Not even close to 2008.

I agree. Kiffin called an absolutely horrendous game. Did nothing to take what the defense gave us. We were absolutely gashing them early on and we decided to get cute. The amount of second and shorts we wasted cost us the game every bit as much as the third and longs we gave up on defense. We have issues on defense. It has gotten progressively worse since 2011. I know offenses are becoming more dynamic, but when teams can absolutely own you on third and longs all season long, then you know something isn't right.

The coaching staff laid a big time egg tonight.

I don't think Kirby Smart is as good as we thought he was to be completely honest. Being Nick Saban's DC is not a hard job and we had insane talent from 2008-2011. Since then we have regressed every year. The last couple of years we have had some of the worst defensive performances in school history. (A&M 2013, Auburn 2014, Ohio State tonight) He is also the DB coach and our DBs don't even know how to play football. Our defense has been completely unprepared for the last two Sugar Bowls. Kirby Smart is the highest paid DC in the country and quite frankly I don't see it. There are multiple DCs in our own division that I would take over him, TBH.

I think it actually takes 2 to 3 years to transition a defense likes ours to handle the new offenses. We have been doing it on recruiting for the past few and think we have brought in and will continue to bring in what we need.

I also agree we should have stayed with the run but Kiffin is still limited overall by our QB limitations.

Muschamp is arguably better than Smart. I was more impressed with his defenses in 2012 and 2013 than Alabama's. Imagine how impressive Muschamp's defenses could be if paired with an offense as good as Alabama's.

Arkansas and Ole Miss's defensive coordinators did more with less.

I give him a pass on the one TD where he just fell down.. that stuff happens. The other Td he gave up is on Jabriel Washington. Eddie was supposed to have safety help over the top and Jabriel left him high and dry.

I agree. Plus as others have mentioned, I don't think EJ's been close to 100%. We'll see.
