Harsh words from his press conference.

Can't say I disagree. But not many teams are elite at this point in the season.

Man, the secondary needs to man up. Minkah was the only one out there that seemed like he wasn't in slo mo.

If we thought we were elite we wouldn't work as hard.

Anthony Averett was great.

You know how I know?

He wasn't mentioned one time.

I don't think they threw to his side all day. They did really need to becuse they were abusing the other side.

This is so true. If a DB is never called out on TV, that means he's either doing his job or sitting on the sideline.

I forgot he was on the team until I saw him standing around after Ronnie Harrison's targeting penalty.

Those aren't harsh words.

By Saban standards, that is damned near glowing praise.

I liked what I saw a lot. We know the offense gets dialed back in the spring and is still looked more poised than last year and the defense looks like it will continue to be evil.

All that without several expected starters playing.

We're going to be way, way better than fine this fall.

Has the coach ever praised the team after the A day game?

It's true. Right now we're just a collection of elite talent and elite potential. If they continue working their asses off, we'll have the best team in the country - bar none

Trevon Diggs was horrendous. He joined Pappanostos, Scott, and Harrison as the worst performers of the day.

Oh, and whoever the backup center was.

Considering he was playing his first real reps at corner against some of the most talented WRs in the country with no design in the front 7 to really pressure the QB or scheme to confuse/challenge reads, with almost certain intent to challenge him for learning purposes, I think it could easily have been worse.

I think he'll be fine. But, yes, he does have some learning to do. Unfortunately, football players can only truly better themselves through experiential learning. So, we may see some mistakes on his side until he gets it or is replaced

Cyrus had the same problem. Takes reps reps and more reps.

Considering Scott was 3/4 and perfect on extra points and we are brining in one of the best kickers this summer I feel fine. The kid from Ole Miss was 6/6 on extra points and 1/1 on FGs last season so hopefully he just had a bad day. Griffith was like 1/6 last Aday and then had a decent season. All else fails Scott is adequate.

And Saban is right, this team isn't elite. We need Hurts to continue to make progress in his ability to go through his progressions and make intermediate throws over the middle. We desperately need a RT. And we need a corner other than AA who isn't 5 yards behind the receiver on every deep route. Poor Diggs is gonna need therapy after that outing. May have to move Fitz back there and hope Hootie is good enough at safety if Diggs doesn't make HUGE strides this summer.
