I'd want to see what the conversation looked like. Were they just being honest about having to work for playing time, or were they dogging the team? I don't think a current player should be obligated to bullshite recruits about early playing time. We're a loaded team, you have to work it obviously, and not everyone is going to get in the game right away.

Didn't Whitley say that he didn't want to make one mistake and then drop off the depth chart? Wonder if that came from our current players instead of the UCLA coaches.

That quote makes a lot more sense now.

It seems like this situation was only a matter of time given our player management. At quite a few positions younger guys seem to not be getting much playing time even when the incumbent starter has been lackluster. If fans can see it the players can too.

What younger guys would you have liked to play?

I can't think of any situations where this is true. Where do you think it happened?

Eddie Jackson barely played during the season. Landon Collins, a likely 1st rounder, saw very limited action until Vinnie got hurt. Geno Smith barely played. The whole Drake/Henry/Yeldon thing. Chris Black only played in garbage time. Hubbard/Devall were not impact guys at all this year. You would think someone like Ryan Anderson/Tim Williams would have gotten some meaningful snaps.

Eddie geno and drake all had disciplinary problems. I have no problem keeping guys off the field who aren't doing right. Vinnie won us the tamu game and played well.

The discipline thing is exactly what Whitley was referencing though. CNS knows what he's doing, but highly rated guys are going to be unhappy when things like that keep them off the field consistently.

Bama has some definite problem children. I'm in favor of cutting these people, even if it were to lead to some losses. It's better for the program in the long run.

So how much credence do we give this?

Some of this is probably inevitable. But recruiting against incoming players? Unforgivable. These players, by definition, have not bought in, and need to go.

Saban plays the best players. Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, Yeldon, all came in and played right out of the gate.

It was a little different in their era, because the more experienced guys were Shula's, not Saban's. Saban is very loyal to his recruits.

I'm not saying that any of the QBs are malcontents, but I've always thought that the backup QB should get meaningful snaps from time to time, and not just mop up duty when we're up 35 late in the game.

They need to go and we have a ton of recruits to make room for.

Read on one of the boards that one of the RBs, I don't remember which one, Altee or Tyren, but one of them was out-performing everybodyin practices and scrimages and wasn't getting any carries. I have NOT heard that they were part of this problem though.

And I don't know why Chris Black isn't playing, but before last season he was getting better reviews than Coop. And he has sent at least one Tweet where he seemed pretty disgruntled. It was pretty cryptic and it seems to be gone but it seemed pretty unhappy.

Um, actually there's been a lot of talk that Kamara did exactly that.

This wouldn't surprise me. Kamara got in the doghouse his first week on campus.

Completely agree.
It's the NFL mentality, though.

Unless injury, attitude or punishment involved , the player that gives the team the best chance to win plays.
These kids come from an environment where they had some power over playing time from park ball to high school. That is over. Take some kids some time to get that. Some never do.
