Are we sure the University (and the football program) and 100% sure that he is better? Having a guy as a $25,000 a year analyst is one thing, having a guy as your Offensive Coordinator is an entirely different one.

Sarkisian was a serious, serious alcoholic. He was literally drinking on the job at Southern Cal. Those are big, big issues. Obviously I hope everything is fine and he's worked it out and is past it, but the liability and the situation are a pretty big deal being the offensive coordinator at THE national powerhouse in college football. Not to mention the pressure........

I just wonder if Alabama (and Saban and the athletic department specifically) is 100% in and good with him taking that sort of role at this point.

I bet Saban hired him as an analyst so he can see what kind of progress Sark is making and how professional he is. If Saban heard or saw anything negative, Sark would already be gone.

It's possible he was asked to consent to random, regular testing as a condition of his current position. That could be used as a screen for any future position.

Im sure saban has assigned someone to keep tabs on him and make sure he hasnt slipped up or anything. Also you got to believe that Sark knows that if he ever is going to coach again this is his shot. That usually has a way of changing people. Between family and Saban i think he knows its now or wal mart for him

Yea - I'm sure it's better, and I'm sure we've been keeping tabs and Sark knows this is basically an extended job interview.

However, guy has a disease. He doesn't just have some bad urges, he is clearly an alcoholic, and not always a functioning one from the stories at USC and even Washington. Hopefully he quickly started treatment and meetings and has aggressively attacked it. I guess I just wonder if we are entirely convinced he is good to go or if we'd still like to see if for a bit longer before we make that kind of commitment.

Obviously I have no idea, I just think it's something that really doesn't seem to be discussed when looking at the possibility of Sark taking over for Kiffin.

Saban moves make so much sense keeping a nice smooth transitions of offensive coordinators who all have a common offensive foundation.
Stark = common denominator with all three being known for there development of QB's.
The difference being Dough the most conservative and lane the most big play.
Steve may be that nice balance in between.

It would be great to some how we keep both with one up top & one side-line
Right now under ncaa rules Stark cant position coach at this point(just consult).
Hopefully we find a position spot to keep both.
But if lane leaves Steve will just be our offensive coordinator.

He has been on what is effectively a 3-month job interview. If he gets the job, I am sure it is because Saban is comfortable with him both on and off the field.

This^.

There is a plan in place for Kiffin's replacement. There was probably a conversation had in the off season and Lane likely expressed his desire to be a head coach again, enter Sark as an analyst. Remember that Kiffin was brought in as an analyst before he got the job.

If Sark replaces Kiffin this year it will be because Saban is comfortable with him in that position.

Also, being the OC of an already well-oiled machine with a micromanager HC is different than being the HC at USC post-sanctions. That was a shitshow and certainly didn't help his addiction.

I would love to have Sark if all is well for him. He is a top OC in the game and from what I have read players to him on the field and in recruiting like they do with Pruitt.

That's what I thought. Couldn't figure out why there was a photo of him in between two of Sark.

Nuss was on Steve Stark Washington staff as Qb coach/asst OC .
When Saban tapped Nuss off of Stark's staff after coach Mack took the Colorado HC job.
So the offensive style transition to Kiffin then and now maybe back to Steve should be smooth.

There is a possibility, of course, that if Kiffin takes a head coaching job, Sark might go with him. I would hope not, but they have a fairly long (for this business) working relationship.

I would hope not since Saban resurrected his career like he did with Kiffin. Kiffin knows offense so its matter of finding someone who can implement what he wants.

Current interim head coach at Fresno State, Eric Kiesau, is a name I would keep an eye on. He helped implement a lot of the no-huddle at Alabama as an analyst in 2015.

I agree. And you'd think that Sarkisian would prefer to stick at Alabama rather than an entirely new staff at another place that may or may not be successful. Plus, if Saban wants to keep the guy, you have to figure we'll pay as well as anybody else would.
