Wouldn't a good negotiating contract be a large sum, but maybe short on years?
Instead of an 8 yr. / 30 million, offer something like a 4 yr./ 20 million.
I don't know the correct numbers, but just compare these two.

99.9% of me wants him to come because I think he can lift this program to places it hasn't been. Then that other .1% wants him to come juSt so we can rub it in the face of everybody who said there was no way he would come.

I just figure he may want more per year, rather than long term, whereas he could negotiate more quickly for more.
