Hentges was not at fault on the throwback. Hurts airmailed it. Period. Jalen is one cool customer, though. Amazing what he's doing right now. I'm really enjoying watching him grow in real time. Roll damn Tide!

For all of the other SEC fans griping about officiating, Ole Miss was actually the beneficiary yesterday. Two of their TDs should have been negated (fumble recovery and the pushoff of Averett in the 4th quarter).

Negatives
Going into the soft prevent at the end. That isn't working against a QB like Kelly. Combined with the special teams breakdown on the onside kick and a game that was safely in hand almost got away.
Coming out as if we didn't know the kind of QB we were facing in Kelly.
Early red zone offense. Bama's first two possessions made it into or very near the red zone and netted 3 points.
Penalties. Still too many false starts and other mental errors.
BoScar. Not kicking him to the curb by any means. He may still turn into a fantastic back but there's no denying that he's had a bad year and this was his worst game thus far. That fumble at the end was just

Hurts. Ice cold assassin with no fear. The kid is everything our resident insider said and more.
Third down conversions. This was a huge problem last season with Bama only converting on 35% of them. This year, Bama is sitting at 46% (22 of 48) and was 7/15 with a grand total of ONE 3-and-out against Ole Miss.
Defensive halftime adjustments. From the end of the first half until 5:00 left in the game (and Bama with an 18 point lead), the defense held OM to a grand total of 6 points while scoring 14. There is no comeback without that effort.
The last two OM scores took a little of the shine off the second half defensive effort, but IMO not too much for a couple of reasons. First is what I listed as a negative. It looked to me like we went into that prevent Saban seems to love where the plan is to give up the short throw and make the tackle to keep them in bounds and the clock running. It is usually an understandable plan, but Kelly's just too accurate. He picks that shait apart with ease when given time.
The second reason (and one that may have played into the decision to go prevent) is that by the end we were playing without several very key players. Minkah, Reuben, Eddie Jackson, and even Jonathan Allen for a while (presumably gassed after the INT return) weren't on the field much if at all at the very end.

Hurts actually looked like a better runner this week against a quicker defense. I think he put that to rest and i was one of the doubters wondering if he could be a true DT-QB in the SEC. I would like to see him get out of bounds quicker when he has maximized his yardage. He seems to to take unnecessary hits because he wont dart out of bounds and instead continues the angle he has taken even when he is not near the first down marker.
Its amazing how good he is now and see that he is still has a lot of room to grow and the type of things he can grow in are all very teachable aspects. As he learns all the plays better and gets a feel for the college game he will improve on getting the ball out faster and hitting his WRs in stride. Many of his throws, even his completions have been a bit late. I think we will see steady improvement on this sooner than later.
His running abilities, super cool under pressure persona, the way his players respond to him show great confidence in him and likability, foot work in the pocket, strong arm are all some of his strengths that should only improve. As he adds in experience he will be more timely with the throws and also take charge of the team more as a leader. I hope he can stay healthy he is a very good one.

Hentges was absolutely at fault. That ball was lofted up to the corner and he quit running. It was brutal.

1. Allen was gassed from his 75yd sprint

I think we went prevent, but I agree these were huge factors and my have been the reason for the change.
Anyhow, as it was it would have still worked fine and resulted in a double digit final margin if we just recovered the kick.

I don't know enough about the Xs and Os to say what it is, but Ole Miss sure seems like they are good at stressing our safeties and making them look bad. Made Collins look awful a couple of years ago at their place too.

100% this. He quit running after the pass was thrown and he couldn't catch back up with it.

The only real negative that I'm concerned about is the continued mistakes by the OL. Several penalties for 2 weeks in a row...plus Taylor almost getting Hurts killed and causing a TD.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that was Jonah Williams's missed block. It looked to me like Jonah should have shifted to the outside block, the rushing end that made the hit, and he instead blocked the guy on his inside, leaving Taylor to try and reach the end. If that was by design, then that is a whack blocking scheme.
