My god.

It was a disaster. I've never seen a returner so confused and out of position. Every single time.

We lost at least 100 yards of field position on our inability to even just field the ball.

The loss of Eddie Jackson really hurting us, turned a great strength into a great weakness.

The Australian kicker fricked him up big time.

You do realize the ball is kicked differently each time. Sometimes short or long, bouncing or not. We had 0 turnovers on that unit is all I care about.

This.

I am puzzled, though, why early in the game he thought he needed to chase it down while it was bouncing and Washington players around it.

Spot on. With the way that crazy Aussie kick works and Eddie out, I would't have even put a guy back there to catch it. I was terrified every single punt.

Their kicker did a good job changing up his punts. Some were liners that bounced others he boomed

The rugby kick isn't new. It's hard to deal with but not impossible. We looked like we had never seen or practiced it before.

The guy returning tonight hasn't seen it at the college level and u less we have one on the practice squad he hasn't seen it there either.

Their punter was so inconsistent he had trouble guessing where the ball was going. Their punter was terrible

That being said, it looked sloppy. It just added to the overall frustrating sloppiness of this game, but no turnovers thank god

And maybe we don't practice it. Do we actually have a scout team punter who kicks it like that? I doubt it.

i give props to washingtons punter. dude done one of the best jobs of keeping the ball out of the returners hands without straight up kicking out of bounds, ive probably ever seen.

Our coaches didn't even know what the hell to do. I saw twice where the ST coach told the returner to start on one side of the field only for Saban to immediately tell the player the opposite.

It got to the point where I wished we didn't put anyone back at all.

Diggs is dangerous when he doesn't catch the ball. He's too damn close to it when it's on the ground bouncing around.

If you're not going to catch it, GTF away from it.

Saban tells him to get it to keep it from bouncing further down field. When he let the first one bounce a long ways saban comely told him to get on it next time. Don't you think saban would of chewed his arse for being to close to it if he did not want him there?

That may be true but one of those bouncers is going to hit him and the other team fall on it.

Write it down.

I get it about not fielding those crazy things. What I don't get is why we didn't really go for the block a couple of times. If you go back and watch, he was taking several steps each time and taking his sweet time kicking it. I remember seeing him almost even with his deep protectors a couple of times. We rush hard a couple of times and we block the hell out out of one of those things.

There were two that definitely should've been fielded but were not, costing the team 20+ yards both times. It's not just about not fumbling. Failing to properly field the ball costs points by swinging field position. Then the one time Diggs did field one, he muffed it. Korren Kirven was the only Bama player who had a worse game last night than Diggs.
