Some development news- city council approved a $30.1 millionbond project that will upgrade a lot of the roads. Hopefully this means they'll fix the congestion on 82. Good news is they're emphasizing walkability, city paving, and going through with the UA and downtown corridor.

$5 million — Citywide paving
$4.6 million — Brookhaven drainage
project
$4 million — Rice Mine Road improvements
$4 million — Jack Warner Parkway rebuilding
$3.5 million — James I. Harrison Parkway
improvements
$3 million — Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard improvements
$2.5 million — Cypress Creek drainage project
$2 million — University of Alabama/
downtown Tuscaloosa corridor improvements
$1 million — City facility improvements
$500,000 — Downtown parking

Just some stuff I would like:

Upgrades at local libraries

Add additional fiber optic cables. Tuscaloosa had 50 miles of it already underground in 2011, and Maddox said he was working on bringing more, so I don't know how much there is but it would be nice to see TTown have faster and more efficient networks.

Continuous traffic flow on McFarland

Parking deck downtown (which I think was approved in the bond project)

Facelift on some of the taller buildings downtown

I would be all over those bonds as an investor. It is like stealing money. I'm sure the stadium bonds are paying out nicely

We already have one. A lot of people don't know, but the transit bus stop down town is also a free parking garage.

It has been addressed from what I've heard and is a slow, steady project. They are addressing it a block at a time.

I'd like to see those terrible white and teal apartments at the corner of Greensboro and Jack Warner bulldozed. That area is really nice now with new condo's, amphitheater, hotels, restaurants, and then that awful eye sore. Bulldoze that shite, Walt!

We're working on it, but there's only so much you can do when the road is already running at capacity.

God I've asked this for years. For such a great area attracting business, that is the biggest eye sore. Such a low-income area too. I would hate living at the the new apartments and having that as my first site.

Never known this about the parking deck. As for the facelift, I'm not sure which buildings have an historic preservation on them downtown, but seeing Birmingham renovate the empire building makes me wonder why we haven't gotten one here lately.

The one being constructed by 31 construction company has been working on that project for like a year now

Rode by this place today and they've definitely done some work on this place including a lot of painting. Has a stucco look so I'm guess it will no longer be an Asian place but maybe Mexican?

Just a heads up for those in town, I read that the University Blvd bridge at Kicker Rd that has been closed almost a year is set to open back up tomorrow.

Yeah they've really sped up the process in the last month. Post-Office Pies is now officially hiring people too, so that's awesome that it's near opening. And lastly, the pieology pizzeria is now officially being worked on inside. Saw a bulldozer inside the damn thing.

Construction city right now

Lots to read in this thread but I am taking my two boys to their first game against Charleston. They are 10 and 9 and this is their first game. Other than the Bryant Museum, what can I take these two to do so that they have a great time?

Personally, I like the Kentuck Arts Center in Northport. It's newly renovated and has some pretty neat shite. But a lot of people aren't into that kind of stuff, especially kids.

I'd just walk around campus. There's plenty of activities for kids in front of the stadium. I've never been, but I hear the Children's Hands-On Museum is cool. Outside of that, nothing really.

Not sure if they'd be into this, but Snow Hinton Park has the tallest slide in the Southeast. It might be something fun to do before the game, and it's right off of McFarland. LINK

Went to Wheelhouse Pub for the first time last night. It's a nice place. They don't have a ton of games, but they have skeeball, air hockey, hoops, cruisin' world, golden tee, etc. Prices were very affordable on games and beer. They have plenty of tv's and projection screens so wouldn't be a bad place to watch a game.

One thing I noticed last night was that Tin Top Sports Bar (formerly Tin Top Restaurant and Oyster Bar) on the corner next to Wheelhouse Pub is officially closed. I thought this place was pretty solid, but I guess they just weren't making enough money for that giant building on the corner in Temerson Square. I know their restaurant down in Bon Secour, Alabama is very successful.

The good news is The Levee on the river in Northport next to Dreamland seems to be doing well. So if you are looking for some good seafood, I'd check it out. They have oyster specials on Monday and a solid happy hour.
