We just need to start the run early on and build from there. Take the small stuff, suck in the safeties and throw a few deep to keep them honest. If they can't figure out where to keep the safeties and struggle with the intermediate passes we should be set. Watson has been turnover prone so I think our def will get something at some point. I think our secondary has improved tremendously, we shut Washington down and their 1 td was a great football move by the receiver.

Dust off the Oakland Raiders playbook of the 70s:

Power run
Power run
Deep strike to Branch
Power run
Play action to Casper or Biletnikoff
Power run Power run
Rinse
Repeat

Run BO with Damien Harris in backfield. Play action with OJ and Ardarius. Bootleg on 3rd and 1.

Play hard, play fast, go out and dominate the guy you're playing against till you make his arse quit !

Gotta say this is the least optimistic ive been in all our National Championship games under Saban, and even including the semifinal loss to OSU.

If Clemson loads the box, we have to utilize Jacobs, Howard and maybe even Forristall against their LB's. Roll outs, naked boots away from the pressure to hit some out routes and drags.

Agree. I think there will be a lot of yards available on short passes to running backs. Jacobs may be primed for a big night.

I want to make them prove they can do one of two things

(a) tackle our running backs consistently at the LOS with a base defense

(b) bring more guys in the box to do it

If they don't do either of those things I want us to pound them until they show they can do A or are forced to do B.

I feel more confident this time around.
I would suggest you take a look at the Pitt vs Clemson game and see how much Pitt's running game
was effective with Conner and use of the TE confused there secondary all day.
Pitt's play action was working thru Connor and wore them down
It was a high scoring game were Watson threw 50 of 70 completed for like 500 yards.

Pitt without the athletes had no choice but to zone all day and when the did try man.
Clemson bread and butter is side line go routes/fades.
Clemson takes away your cover help over the top on williams if your lb'ers cant handle there te.
I think Harrison in nickle or straight Ruben will be fine with Evans blitz and shadowing Watson

Thru all the lane stuff a good point about Kirby uga/bama balance may have revealed,
why we zoned Watson so much and did not spy him with a Rasheed Evans sooner or get after him more.
We may give up a play or two to Williams but if we pressure more this time around,
we will get our chance to pick off a few and sack for change of down and distance.

We need to get after watson right out the gate.
Very seldom a repeat super man performance happens in a re-match.
But we will see.
But the Main thing is Pitt ran on them .

It looks like Bo Scarbrough has finally figured out he's the baddest cat on the field. If we can avoid nagative plays on first and second down, I think we'll win the game. The preventable penalties have got to stop though. False starts and illegal procedures are drive killers and really hinders us from a play calling perspective. Jalen needs to be more decisive when he decides to run. He's really not that good when he "scrambles to throw". The game is still moving too fast for him. First read, second read, tuck it and go. A two yard run is better than a sack or throw away. We don't need him to be Tom Brady, just need him to move the football

We had 4-5 in the Washington game that literally stole points away. Even with the total clusterfvck of an offensive plan, a couple of terrible pre-snap penalties as well as the illegal man downfield penalty took away at least 6-14 points, if not more.

Quite frankly it's amazing how productive we are offensively even when we are playing like chickens with our heads cut off.

I think we should see if Clemson will decide to put someone on OJ this year. You have to at least check and see a couple of times, right?

If they decide to put someone in his area code this year, then we run the bawl!

Venables is not going to make it easy on the kid.
Clemsons D will load the box presnap, and then he is going to have folks drop back covering the TE and backs in the middle. Jalen will get confused ( totally understandable) and freeze up. Easy throws to Jacobs/Bo in the flats, WR bubble screens will hopefully loosen the D up at least.
Jalen has a mental block for some reason to not release the ball unless its an absolute sure thing. Those situations don't exist in college football, he is gonna have to risk it for the biscuit on a deep throw or 2.

Running game should be a mix of power and read/option
I'd be happy to never see the read option again. I'm not sure Jalen has made the right read all season.

we have two pass plays at this point, deep ball or wideouts, tho we did attempt some more intermediate stuff against uw ... rewatched the game and their line did a really good job of getting pressure, esp on the right side of bama's line ... the type of routes/combos run need improvement ... we had a 3rd and 7 and all 3 wideouts ran deep/fly patterns with no one working an intermediate route for the 5-10 yd gain ...

I mean yea, the last game was pure garbage. I think we've all figured out why.

We might not play great, but I guarantee there is a clear plan to what we are doing offensively on Monday night.

Yep. Don't think we've had success with the Read Option since A&M. If anything, not calling it is one less decision Jalen has to make Monday night....which is a good thing IMO.

Man I hope you're correct. We need to get the receivers looking sharp also. It's got to be somewhat disappointing to mainly block when you're as good as our receivers are.
