Winning would cure the attendance/money issues. They finally have a coach that can recruit, coach, and raise money and they didn't give him a chance. Attendance was up this year and they are bowl eligible for the first time in almost ten years.

If a move to FCS is what the program needs then that's what they should do. They pulled the plug on a lot of people from scholarshipped players and band members to salaried staff.

The BOT should be ashamed for the way this has played out.

I would rather watch the top SEC game of the day than go to a UAB game.

That is the same decision a lot of UAB students and alumni are making.

How about ... I would rather watch any 2 power 5 teams playing on television than go to a UAB game. UAB has done nothing but bitch and moan about its benefactors. I say frick the bastards. They have a nice basketball program. They should be grateful for what they do have. So, get the frick in line and shut the * up.

bullshite. Go back and read my previous post. On their first opportunity to get bowl eligible a couple of weeks ago, only 9,400 showed up. To see them try and get bowl eligible for the first time in 10 years.

Has attendance been up this year? Sure. But don't kid yourself into thinking that it's because of UAB. The athletic director predicted increased attendance for 2014 a year ago:

"Obviously, we would want more fans, and we never have had a problem meeting that 15,000 requirement by the NCAA," he said. "The reason I'm not concerned is next year we have a very good home schedule. We have Troy the first game of the year. They travel. And our third game of the year will be against Alabama A&M, and they have very good crowds that follow them. Next year bodes well for scheduling."

UAB administration admitting that they have to rely on visiting teams to meet the 15,000 minimum attendance figure mandated by the NCAA.

Saved money can go towards bball program. Georgetown is a good model. Villanova as well.

Not a good comparison as both are private schools. With no football, they'll be kicked out of C-USA and will struggle to find another league to join. With no league, the basketball program will flounder.

I don't really believe all the conspiracy theories that the UA BOT is out to get the UAB football program, but I do think there is some bad blood there with Bryant that goes back to Bartow. At some point though, the UAB football program has to move past that and prove they are self-sustaining. They've had 2 decades to do that and haven't. I hate to see it go, but won't lose any sleep over it.
