Damn.

I'm usually the cautiously optimistic type, but I think the team is good to go. The OL will be a strength this year, and this week.

Why would anybody think an Alabama QB would run for 1000 yards? He's going to pick up 3rd down and 6s with ease, like he has. He's going to beat defenses to the pylon with ease, like he has. Y'all are underestimating his running ability. Dude has made guys look really stupid, it's just been in a phone booth. He hasn't broken one yet and that's probably by design. The runs that looked silly against WKY aren't what people should judge his running ability by. It looked like he was just trying to find a spot to lay down on most of them.

Who should play QB?

That said, he looked like a freshman Saturday. Call it timing or just poor throws, but he was off all game.

I think that your op is fair for the most part, but to say "he was off all game" is just factually incorrect.

He obviously has a lot of room for improvement, seeing as he is a TF, but he still looked good in his first start in an Alabama uniform, especially considering the run game isn't really opening much up for him. He is just straight up dangerous when the ball is in his hands.

Hurts.

This is the problem people seem to have with my posts. If I offer any criticism at all, a lot of people think I'm saying he sucks. Dude is going to be a beast. But, he's a freshman, and it's going to take time. I think he's done very well, considering.

Just because a wide open WR caught a ball, doesn't mean it was thrown to the right spot.

I remember Spencer Pennington, Brandon Avalos and that 4 game stretch Greg McElroy had.........it's impressive enough

I guess, but that also doesn't mean that he was off all day...

I think I'm coming off as being more critical of him than I actually am. He certainly hasn't played poorly. But, some of us have been pretending he's been spectacular. I think we need to be a little more realistic in what he's actually done. He's played very well for a freshman, and he's put up very good numbers. But, he needs some improvement. Some of his passing numbers are due to have 4 or 5 receivers that are running around wide open half the time. That's not a bad thing. I just haven't seen him hit many of those guys in stride. Am I expecting too much? No, I didn't expect a ton out of a freshman. He's met my expectations. It's the people who think he's going to win the heisman this year that are disappointed in what I've said about him.

I think we can win with Hurts exactly as he is. But, if the run game struggles, we can lose some games too.

Its more the part where you call us Hurts fanboys and then critique him and then say "apparently" it's the best Alabama has. And didn't you start a thread about Hurts after the game on the score board that was a bit critical?

I know you don't mean anything snarky by it. But, that's why I think people aren't receiving the OP very well.

Also, it's hard to complain about QB play with the numbers the guy is throwing up. And that's with HUGE plays being called back and really, really bad drops. Dude needs to work on his timing and deep pass. Being he's a true freshman, that's a damn miracle.

It's all relativity. He's played very well for a true freshman. I agree there are things he can work that will come with time, the biggest thing for me is his timing on some of the throws. That will come hopefully this week, but definitely this season. He gets the timing down on some of those throws Saturday and his stats look even better.

I think if we get by Ole Miss Saturday, we have a couple more games in Kent State and Kentucky to get Hurts more snaps and get him ready for Arky, Tennessee, LSU, Miss St and Auburn. It'll be a fun season.

I could be completely wrong, because I haven't been hitting the boards much this football season, but I haven't really seen anyone on here with those expectations.

Most of us, before the season, said that we just wanted a QB that could get the ball to our stud WRs, and I think many are just excited that we seem to have that, and we are only two games in.

Yep - that's an excellent point. We have to find a way to win this weekend, then Hurts gets two more games to fine tune things and get comfortable before we hit an insanely difficult stretch run.

Yea - I don't see anyone with Heisman expectations. I see people both happy with his current status (and still a tad nervous), and drooling over his future prospects.

And most acknowledge that he could show up and play like a freshman one week and we'll have a rough go of it.

I haven't started any threads about Hurts, no. And, I'm not talking about Hurts fans, of which I am one. I was talking about fan boys.

I agree it's difficult to complain about the QB, with his numbers. And I'm not complaining. I just don't think those numbers will keep up in the SEC unless he improves. Especially if we don't run the ball well.

Agree on RT, a TE could have helped that situation some. Sometimes bigger isn't better. Ryan Kelly never broke 300 lbs.

It's just not smart. A tackle shouldn't be more than 310-315 as they have to athletic enough to run against DEs who are 270 and also play pass protection against 255 guys who are studs at pass rushing. It's why tackles are so hard to really find.

USC was basically like "rush on this side all game" and then their LT got hurt and it was just dire

500+ yds this weekend pass/rush combined with 6TDs. The campaign will start shortly after the game

I really just want to get through this game this weekend any way we can. If we can do that, I will feel really good about the rest of the way.

How's he suppose to win three in a row if he doesn't win it this year? I doubt he stays for his senior year after breaking all of the national passing, rushing, and receiving records.

My concern at this moment is what is our identity on offense and can we go on the road and beat arguably the 2nd best team in the league without yet forming one? What's our safety valve during crunch time? Getting the ball to Ridley & Stewart?

Last year, it took us a few games to realize it was Henry. The year before, it was Amari.
