If it happened it would solely be to prove he can put out a great defense without Saban looking over his shoulder, which is a natural feeling for anyone to have.

Only thing Bama fans need to worry about is Nick quitting. Defensive coaches for him are a dime a dozen

God Kirby better decline that shite with the quickness.

That would be a punch to the face to every Alabama football player, student and diehard.

As far as pay, facilities etc it's not even a lateral move.

I wouldn't take it that way. He's coached, what, 8 years at Bama? That's a long time and LSU is a good program

But there's no point in anyone jumping on him right now. All we know is that LSU contacted him. Doesn't mean that he's interested

I do not see it happening. The reason it seems many DCs are not jumping at LSU is Les has to be on the hot seat. Why would any top DC, especially in a great spot currently, do a lateral move to program that might fire their HC the next season which means he would be gone as well.

These schools have to reach out for guys like Kirby to appease their fans. Just like Texas did with Saban. I never for a minute thought he would go there, but Texas fans/alum feel they deserve the best and would have been upset if Texas did not try. No harm in trying and keeps the crazies happy.

And your very next stop would be to a divisional rival who hates your guts(currently) and the team and school you coach for.

I don't see how you wouldn't think that would be.

We have our DC in waiting already on staff. His name is Kevin. We would not miss a beat. He was the DC and left which allowed KS to be promoted.

I certainly hope not. That would be an epic step down from CKS to CKS. Now, if we could convince Pruitt to come back home, I might be okay with it. Every other DC would be a step down from Smart.

Reading the Coaching Changes Board and most LSU fans seem to think hiring Kirby would be a "meh" hire. Funny how a few games can change the perception of an otherwise solid DC. 2014 is the only year that Alabama hasn't had the #1 defense in tSEC.

Now that his name is out there, I'll confirm the guy I was referencing on Friday was Kriby Smart. The reason I had to protect my source was that I was told his name getting out could be a deal breaker, or at the very least Alabama would counter and drive up the price. The reason he is interested in the job is allegedly he feels like he won't get any credit as long as he is on Saban's staff, and he needs to branch out on his own. He got almost no interest in any openings this year, and Miles would let him run the defense at LSU. He allegedly feels like McIlwain and Muschamp both got increased interest as soon as they left Saban's staff, and that this would be his best route to a head job. That's why he would consider a lateral move. I continue to be told that no deal is done with anybody.

Great points.

Love Kirby, but I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go that route.

I wouldn't be excited about him going to a division rival. If he needs to leave, why not South Carolina? I'm sure they would get rid of their DC in a minute if CKS expressed interest.

I dunno? Maybe LSU pays a lot more, not to mention how much bigger of a talent pool he'd be in.

It would seem like betrayal if he were to go to LSU. I understand the furthering of his career angle, but there are other places outside of the SECw that he could do that.
