Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart "has emerged as the frontrunner" for the South Carolina head coaching vacancy, according to a report from FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman, adding to the coaching search chaos of this season.

Steve Spurrier abruptly resigned at South Carolina on Oct. 12, and one day later Smart was considered the betting favorite to replace the Head Ball Coach in Columbia, according to Bovada. More than a month later, that still is still the case.

Smart, who is in his ninth season at Alabama, has been beside Nick Saban since his LSU days. The former Georgia defensive back has led the Crimson Tide to a No. 3 national ranking in total defense (265 yards allowed per game) this year.

The Gamecocks have posted a 3-8 (1-7 SEC) record and their season will end this weekend after a rivalry game with No. 1 Clemson. Second-ranked Alabama (10-1, 6-1 SEC) will travel to Auburn for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 28.

"I'm happy for our coaches to be recognized, and have opportunities," Saban said earlier this season. "When the time comes, I'll do everything I can to help them and I think they all know that. But at the same time, their job and their responsibility right now is to stay focused on our team and what we're doing. I think they all understand that."

I'd hate to lose Kirby, but this would be a good spot for him and an easy place to be able to root for him as well.

Solid job for him, just like with Coach Mac I'd be rooting for him to succeed. I wonder if he'd target any current/recent Bama assistants to go with him?

Wish he would start at a smaller program first, then head to an SEC program. Not to say he's not going to be successful, but let him get the feel of everything first. I think the Memphis job is going to be open, that would a great place to start

You have to think he waits to see what LSU and Jimbo do. He would likely be FSU's top choice.

Uh Rizzy,

Do you realize that Feldman is recycling quotes from a month ago?

It's called click bait. Noting has emerged that shows Kirby is the front runner other than Fox Sports trying to generate news and traffic.

Do some research before posting - it took me about two minutes to trace the original quotes in the story.

Wow, really. If BOL only posted news as it happened, gullible subscribers wouldn't pay for the same information that someone with half a brain gets for free. They recycle and fabricate click bait worse the free services. They do this because they have to keep you interested or you won't pay.

Perhaps you missed the point where I said its a retread article. That means they take old news, stats and quotes and place them in a different order along with a new date - viola new article, new clicks, new water cooler chatter over nothing more than a notion to generate service revenue.

The problem I have with this is you come here and to the SECRant and post it like its new information.

the 'now' is the keyword in your post that the author uses to generate network traffic. Nothing in the article shows things have changed or that its "new" information. The only thing that lends credence to the "news" he purports is the fact that USC hasn't hired a coach nor have they said who the front runner is, therefore anyone can write an article pretend to be in the know.

My point isn't to berate you, but merely to educate you on the difference between real news of substance versus retread click bait that does nothing but fuel rumor mills and does a disservice to the schools and fans alike.

These articles are a dime a dozen this time of year, and in and of themselves mean absolutely nothing. First of all, just because a source at USCe lets it slip that they are interested in Smart, it doesn't mean that Smart has any interest whatsoever. Second, I doubt seriously that any coach on any contending team has had any conversations whatsoever at this point with any other schools. The school may reach out to an agent like Sexton, but that's it at this point.

First of all I don't know who you talking to like that my boy, second I know what kind of article it is, I brought it over here merely for discussion, and I'm gonna keep posting articles like this as long as I feel like it
