Jimmy Sexton was in Tuscaloosa for a couple days, his goal was to finalize the Saban retirement, work on DeBoer's new deal, and get his other clients paid in the meantime.

He is absolutely the best at what he does. He represents his clients to the best of his ability, negotiates the best deals he can, gives his clients the best advice, and gets them top dollar. I don't get the hate that some people have for him. Does he exercise a tremendous amount of power and influence over university athletic departments? Sure. Am I going to blame him because more universities don't say no to him? That's on them. Am I going to blame him because other agents haven't emerged to compete against him? No. Does he sometimes represent two competing coaches for the same job? Probably. But if they know that and they don't care, so what?

I don't hate the guy. I envy him. I can't imagine having a better job.

It is more likely Norvell reached out to Sexton to see if he could get an interview than him getting an offer and turning it down .

I mean, Byrne was in Washington the night that Saban announced his retirement I think. Seemed to move pretty quick on him.

People keep saying he was the 4th or 5th option because of things they read on social media. Realistically, you're not signing someone that far down the list in less than 48 hours.

Paying attention to anything on the SECRant is an absolute waste of time.

They don’t know anything about football.

The few who do aren’t interested in having a reality based conversation, only in trolling out of boredom and their hate for all things Bama.

To make it even worse most are not very smart to begin with and are just there trying to talk **** to rationalize why their team won’t continue to be owned by Bama as they have for 90% of their lifetimes.

A psychologist would have a field day looking at the psyche of fans from Auburn and LSU (to a lesser degree UT) because they are so wrapped up in their victimhood mindset they just lash out irrationally.

Avg SECr post: “Haha Bama lost their C, they’ll win 7 games next year!”
Bama fan: “You mean the C who missed snaps on 50% of the plays in the Rose Bowl and almost cost Bama the Iron Bowl too? Why would it be a bad thing for Bama for him to transfer?”
Avg SECr Post: “lol cope more, suck it gump!”

Much like Paul Finebaum none of it is worth paying attention to. They don’t know and they don’t care what the reality is, only how it makes them feel better about getting their arse kicked for 60 years.

I believe it. I read somewhere right after Saban retired that he was someone Byrne had his eye on.

Greg told everyone to ignore any rumors and if it doesn’t come directly from him then it’s just a rumor. He also said that he knew this day was coming and had been prepared for it for a few years now. He already knew his target and the chances of actually being able to land his target. It takes several days to vet a candidate, a few more to gather up the BOT and have them vote & sign contracts, etc. The fact that Greg had his man in less than 48 hours proves that DeBoer was his man all along.

"Top target" is such a message board fueled non-sense label . It just does not matter.

Everything else, according to Cole, was Jimmy Sexton conducting a master class in getting his clients paid even more money.

And the entire world falls for it EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Damn, I need to hire Sexton.

Less than a week? Hell, Byrne stated and should brag that it took 45 hours, less than two days.

I'm certain much was done to 'prep' this but it shows how a machine can work, when needed.

I loved watching the tRant and SECRant go wild with number of rejection count.

This was literally a Masterclass in how to hire a coach. Don't talk to anybody, don't answer media speculation, and get your guy in less than two days.

We give Mal credit for hiring Saban (and we know he came home with the guy who would become the GOAT eventually), but that was a bungled coaching search from the beginning. The Price and Shula coaching searches were even worse. The hire after Stallings retired was because Bockrath let the booster bbq buddies tell him we needed a Bryant Boy in DuBose.

Outside of Franchione, who was named head coach right after the Auburn game, our athletic department has absolutely shite the bed in terms of conducting an actual coaching search.

The reason I know nobody had an offer on the table but DeBoer is that you couldn’t go through two or more candidates who got offered in 48 hours.

You aren’t offering multiples the job at once and seeing who says yes. That’s a good way to make enemies in the coaching ranks. So you’ve got to interview, offer, wait for the coach to talk to his family about it, receive acceptance/rejection of the offer. And before it becomes Official Official, the agent and school must draft a memorandum of understanding on the broad parameters of the deal. That’s probably well over 24 hours just for one guy.

I mean no disrespect to prior ADs, but this is the difference between having old coaches be your AD and having a person who learned how to be an administrator so they could be an AD.

Byrne said at the introductory PC that DeBoer had first come onto his radar 3-4 years ago. So yeah, he already knew an awful lot about KD and was obviously pretty impressed with him.

There’s the forest and then there’s the trees.
I believe that Coach D is here because he was the top name in the drawer. He had it so good at UW.
He’s the guy humbled and not afraid.
My 2 cents.

I believe 100 percent that's the case honestly. Sexton doing his things per usual and bleeding other universities dry.

I was wrong once in 3rd Grade, (still not sure if that teacher knew what a dangling modifier was). Anyway… I concur

My SO is a Nole. I have to quietly sit back and just to keep the peace agree with her that their coach is so awesome that all Bama fans, and the people who make the decisions wanted him. It's the price I pay.

I rarely venture to the SEC Rant, and especially not when something bad (or perceived as bad) has happened to Alabama. It's not worth my time.
