JM is dead last in the SEC holding the ball nearly 4 seconds before getting it out.

JM also refuses to step up in pocket which hasnt helped, but 74 is not ready.

Its a cluster.

since Simpson was sacked 5 times vs USF, how many of those were on him?

I know where Latham got his singular sack...he flat out whiffed on an inside rush .. Just bumped the USF player who then drilled Simpson

Reads like a left tackle and quarterback problem. Left tackle is getting physically beat some but it comes down to decision making and technique. Quarterback holds the ball and stays in the pocket too long.

Both are fixable but not easy fixes necessarily.

Alinen is a GUARD and he's nasty like Landon Dickerson (I love it). Formby look good at tackle. Heck, I would give him a try!

Proctor would be a lot better as a GUARD as well.

We wouldn't even have to go that far if our OC was creative.

We could have the TE chip, then release late as a security valve.

We could motion the TE late to that side to chip quickly then get out on their route.

Different ways to address this issue but we need an OC who can think without Saban cattle prodding him (see 2nd half quick throw adjustments against A&M which Rees went away from... see 2nd half running the ball adjustment Rees went away from... etc).

Thats right. Formby and McVay are huge. Alinen is too. Some good looking young prospects. Too bad we wont be blowing many teams out or else we might get to see some more of them.

As much as I hate to say it, Proctor is (right now) too fat and slow to be effective. There's no way to remedy that now but honestly, I'm hoping he truly commits to losing about 20-30 lbs in the offseason and works on his quickness. If he can do that, he's going to massively improve next year.

For the time being, I agree that CNS has no choice but to get him some help with a TE, even if it's chip block. He simply cannot handle an effective speed rush guy by himself.

The rest of the O line is decent or good. Proctor is the weak link and it's not even close.

Milroe doesn't help himself by holding on to the ball too long. If the offensive line gives him 4 seconds to get the pass off, they've done their job and there have been WAY too many times where they've done that and he STILL takes a sack.

Sidenote-I'm curious as to what the plan is with who will play center next year? Seth and Darian are gone and we have James Brockermayer and after that, walk ons? I don't believe Bama has a center committed in the recruiting class. I'm guessing maybe convert Booker to center this Spring?

PFF numbers arent accurate. If they were, Dalcourt would not have gotten benched.

They have Dalcourt higher rated than Booker.

Automatically disqualifies their numbers.

At pass blocking, and only slightly (78.4 vs 74.3).

Booker is higher in run blocking (68.8 vs 64.1) and overall (70.8 vs 66.5). Roberts is above Dalcourt (69.3 vs 66.5) but below Booker. Ferguson is the lowest ratest of all the guards.

Their grades are whatever, but they do have the 2 guys we have starting at G now as the 2 highest rated guards.

The weird thing is that he didn't struggle in camps against quick edge rushers

He most certainly struggled in offseason scrimmages.

Yep - his only sack allowed was vs USF. He has given up 1 pressure in total over the last 4 games (Ole Miss, State, A&M, Arkansas). Playing his arse off.

USF - 5 Sacks
- (2) Kadyn Proctor (LT)
- (1) JC Latham (RT)
- (1) Jase McClellan (HB)
- (1) CJ Dippre (TE)

Ole Miss - 4 Sacks
- (4) No responsibility (QB or free blitz)

Mississippi State - 4 Sacks
- (1) Robbie Ouzts (TE)
- (3) No responsibility (QB or free blitz)

Giving up that many sacks per game, it's truly amazing that we haven't turned the ball over more than we have.

Good find

In the scrimmage tape you could tell Proctor was not ready in pass pro, and Formby looked better than him in that regard

Are we running a lot of 2 TE sets? When we run a single TE and keep him in to block, is he typically off left or right tackle?

I honestly haven't paid much attention. But it could be we either need a TE blocking on that side more often or maybe in a single TE set, he is off RT more often, which skews the # numbers.

No matter how you slice it, it's terrible. Even if some of the sacks are just Milroe not throwing it away and running out of bounds behind the LOS.

Especially considering how many come quickly from the backside.

Bingo

This should have been a plan for weeks. #4 would know he has an out on every pass attempt and the defense would have to use a player to counter #45 in the flat.

Bingo!
It looks to be the only solution this season. It doesn't take but a couple of offensive series to easily recognize that the kid's SLOW footed, and his lack of lateral range can only be overcome with some TE help.

PS-Who, the HELL, evaluated him for a scholly offer?

Also - Tennessee's young kid on the edge, Pearce, is exactly the sort of matchup we've struggled with. Long, bendy, fast edge rushers. If we don't come up with something and execute it that kid is gonna have 5 sacks and 10 pressures.

Yea I agree this guy will be a problem to...
