I have about as much confidence in Coker as I do in most of the other guys on our roster. We've never seen him in a real game time situation. How do we know if he is a good decision maker?

We don't know if Coker (or any of the others) have the mental makeup to be a great quarterback, that's a fair point. What we do know is that Coker has more physical talent, by a good bit might I add, than any of our current backups.

Obviously that isn't the most important metric to be a successful college quarterback, but given what we do not know I'd like to get a guy in here that has next level physical tools. If we have a guy that can beat out someone as talented as Coker then I will be very at ease with our quarterback situation because it means we've got a gamer under center.

Personally, if DC is fine to go, I'd love a Cornwell vs Coker battle for the job. But that isn't gonna happen.

How so?

I know we've been over this on this board before, but I still don't know where this confidence in him comes from.

For one I've seen them all throw. Secondly he battled with the Heisman front runner well enough that he wasn't named the starter until fall camp. Coker is around 6'5" 240 and was an all district basketball player. He's a pure athlete.

I take what kiper and Mcshay say with a grain of salt but they both said he had first round talent. Dameyune Craig said he had more potential than EJ Manuel. I'm not sure why it's so hard to convince you that a guy with prototype physical ability might be a better option than the guys we have on campus considering how underwhelming they've looked when we've seen them.

I agree with Rise we don't know Coker's intangibles but he is already a better body-type than Sims (people forget Sims is just a "listed" 6'1") and hasn't shown anything that could be considered "wowing" other than maybe that Keep on the Zone Read over a year ago against Arkansas.

All of the other guys (ie Del Rio, Bateman, Morris, and Cornwell) Coker is already more experienced. Other than probably minor differences in terminology Coker has been learning the Saban/Fisher system for at least 3 years.

Morris and it's not even close

If that were even remotely close to being true, we would have seen Morris play this year besides just a handful of snaps against UT Chatt.

Word is that Coker wont graduate until Spring, which means he wont get to Bama until the summer at the earliest (if he came).

Are you guys as confident in a guy coming in without going through a Spring Practice? Especially when the same guy is coming off knee surgery?

I just don't want another team's backup. If there is not a decent QB on the roster out of the 5-6 who will be there next year, whoever evaluates QB recruits might need to find another job

Coker stuff is WAY overblown about him coming to Bama.
