"I always had belief, but it's kind of surreal that it actually happened," Coker said. "To play quarterback for Alabama is something that's always been a dream of mine."

Did we offer him coming out of High School?

Yes. Very late in the process though after we missed on Kiel and Winston. He was already committed to Florida State.

Speaking of Coker, BOL reported that he was spot on a few deep balls during the media viewing period yesterday at practice.

Perhaps his confidence is growing and he's settling in.

"He threw the ball to the guys that he was supposed to throw it to," Saban said. "He made the right reads based on the call that was made and based on the way Wisconsin was playing. You know, if they're playing split safeties, you're supposed to throw it to one side. If they're playing middle of the field closed, you're supposed to throw it to the other side. So it's not like Jake went out there and said, 'I am going to throw to a lot of different guys.' He threw it to the guy that he was supposed to throw it to all the time in the game, which was a very good thing.

The best part of the game to me. I was worried on which QB would start and if he would have problems making the right reads. Coker really did a good job of reading the defense and going through his progressions. The TD to Foster was really impressive once ESPN did a breakdown of it.

The receivers looked really solid all around though for this game. If Coker can ever get any touch on the deep ball, then this offense will be unreal.

He's spent 5 years in the film room with any of the following:

Jimbo Fisher
Lane Kiffin
Nick Saban

People were making out like he couldn't read a defense, but against Wisconsin he was doing a pretty good job of it. Hope he completes 2-3 deep balls this Saturday to get his confidence on those up. You can just tell he likes to unload the ball deep.

We were late but it wasn't after Kiel and Winston, both of which were 2012.

Coker was 2011. We took Ely.

He's gonna need it going forward. He missed the chance to have 3 TD passes on Sat. Good to see is reading the coverages and making good decisions. He will not asked to do a lot, just not to make the big mistakes

One was atrocious. One was about 2-3 yards shy. One was perfect and Stewart slowed.

Still had one of the best opening games of a new starting QB in years

You're right. It was Cody Kessler that we went after in 2011 and missed on, along with Bubba Starling (signed with Nebraska; believe he went MLB though).

Marcus Mariota was ranked as the #18 DT QB in that class.

2011 was a good year for QBs, several starting QBs came from that class around the nation.
