My bad, that should say Ragland, Foster, and Co. I will edit immediately. Definite brain fart/typo. I referenced Depriest being out later in the post.

I agree with a lot of what you said in the op.

The fact is, Tricket is a damn good QB and made some excellent throws saturday night. Placing all the blame on dbs just discredits the kind of game he had.

Also, does anyone have the 2nd half stats for the game?

How many times would AJ have been sacked had he been in the game? 3? 4? Probably. Sims was never sacked and we were very rarely behind the chains or off schedule.

Had a QB like AJ been playing, we'd have had 2nd and 14+ like 3 or 4 times. Sims' legs keep us on schedule and out of 2nd and 3rd and long.

Sims legs are an incredible asset, much more so than I had even anticipated.

Can't disagree with this, although AJ was good at moving in the pocket when there wasn't a blitz. Whenever a defense blitzed(and it wasn't picked up), he would fold. Blake will make teams pay for blitzing.

...by missing simple rollout passes.

Alright that may be too critical but twice he threw short, terribles balls on the rollout. He did however make good plays on the rollout so the potential is there.

I was thinking more along the lines of taking off for a 10-15+ yard gain once the defense over pursues.

You guys are harsh on a guy that was starting his very first game on a pretty big stage.

UAFanFromNOLA: You can't say that because we haven't seen Coker play yet.

Then you're saying Coker would've given us a better chance to win, but Saban still chose to sit him all game knowing this information. Interesting strategy.

No he isn't. He's saying Saban himself has said the competition isn't over, so we don't know if Coker gives us a better chance or not. Gotta see him play first.

A fundamentally ridiculous statement down to its core, and if it was true, every QB who ever played with good receivers was, is, and has been over-rated by every human who ever watched a football game. Just silly.

Let me get this straight... Sims "appeared" more talented and "appeared" to have a better game because the guys he tossed it to made some good plays after they caught it, and negated the talent of the man who threw it there and negated the effort of all the other 10 guys up to the point where the WR makes the catch?

Do Yeldon and Henry appear better because we have a good Oline? Do we need to put in Tenpenny?

I personally said the QB competition isn't over.

But if Sims played the entire game on Saturday, is it reasonable to assume the coaching staff felt on that day that Sims gave us the best chance to win?

And did I imply to know the future or count Coker out?

Also, YOU AND I have to see Coker play first to know. The coaching staff doesn't. They know from hours upon hours upon hours of practice. Sure, games matter, but don't act like practice is irrelevant.

Notice I said, "Right now, Sims gives us the best option to win. That is a fact."

Maybe, but then you go right back to:

Coker's leg was wrapped
Away from BDS
Sims had a solid rhythm
Close game

So we don't know. After the game Sims had, if the competition is still going on, it's because Coker has shown Saban and Kiffin something.

I don't know. You said Sims gives us our best option to win, and you said it was a fact. But we don't know that for sure because we haven't seen the other guy. If you wanna assume that not seeing him means Sims is the best option, that's fine, but it isn't factual.

Practice isn't irrelevant, but a lot of players do bad in practice and awesome in games and vice versa.

Here is a pic of Coker's knee "wrapped." He's wearing a white legging.

I'm frankly surprised they were able to save his leg. I might do an ice bucket challenge for folks who need to keep their knee warm. Gotta raise awareness of this terrible, terrible affliction our obviously best QB is afflicted with.

I'm rewatching the game now on youtube, and you're right. Christion Jones dropping that bomb made Sims look incredible. I'm gonna keep watching - maybe if Jones drops a few more, Sims will get drafted.

Let me rephrase that then since you take so much issue with it. Our receivers were able to get open effectively limiting the number of difficult throws Sims had to make.
