Don't sell Pittman short. I personally think he's a solid hire. He can coach OL and he's a heckuva recruiter. One way to stay in every game is to be solid in the trenches. I think Arkansas did the smart move and not try to win the press conference but build from the basics.

This is not really related to Pelini, but I have been in the fire Golding camp since mid season and I still would not be totally upset if he left.....But, besides maybe Charlie Strong or Glenn Schumman, the DC field is kind of weak this year. Also, with Moses back along with a years experience for the freshman maybe Golding really does turn it around. If not, there is a very good chance that Muschamp will be fired next season and would be available. Not only that but we would have another year of seeing how good Ainsley is at calling plays. Who knows, if Tennessee is horrid next season Pruitt could be looking too. So all that to say I feel that waiting until next offseason would give us a better group of DC's than are currently available along with the possibility that Golding actually turns it around.

Yeah but it seems to matter less and less with the RPO sadly.

I have nothing against him. But I mean, he does look like a squidbilly.

As long as we don't find ourselves bailing water on the Titanic. Last year was a hell of a leak.

Really?

So how would you describe the 127 defenses that finished the year ranked below us in SP+ total defense?

[It's a rhetorical question. Your opinion means less than nothing to me.]

He is a 2-2 vs both as a defensive staff member

1) We lost to auburn because of 2 pick 6s. Full Stop. End of discussion on why we lost to auburn. The defense played plenty good enough to win.

2) Regarding LSU, they had arguably the best CFB season of all time, and we nearly beat them with a hobbled Tua, losing by only 5. If that game had been 3 minutes longer, we likely win. That defense had a helluva second half overall, and the good can't be ignored. The good counts just as much as the bad in an evaluation.

Sure, our defense has plenty of room for improvement, and had obvious deficiencies at the ILB and DLine groups in 2019. We tackled poorly at times, and had to get REALLY out of our comfort zone to try and make it work last year, notably going to a 3-3-5 a good bit in the final 3rd of the season. Hell, we had to take our starting Mike off the field on passing downs, and our Dline wasn't winning 1-on-1 matchups. Can you all understand how crazy these things make life for a DC?

But I'm also clear on 2 other things:

a) Our defensive deficiencies are almost totally due to personnel issues. It's clear as day. I see no reason for any logical person to lay our issues primarily at the feet of Golding's coaching prowess. As a matter of fact, I think he did quite a good job to get what he got out of that freshman/MASH unit.

b) Furthermore, I'm also clear that we are living in the era of offensive explosion, and playing defense is harder today than it has ever been in CFB. Everyone needs to understand that the Bama defensive unit we watched this past year, while not up to our standards and had plenty of room for improvement, was still one of the best units in the country. That's how difficult playing defensive is now. The. Game. Has. Changed.

And so, yeah. I get really annoyed that a huge portion of this board won't update their expectations to 2019/2020, and they also won't clearly see just how big of a personnel 8-ball we were behind in 2019 after the injuries. Remember, ILB and DLine depth were 2 of our biggest question marks BEFORE the injuries. Those were the preseason negative narratives, along with TE/H talent and depth. And so again, yeah, rewriting history and ignoring our eyes in favor of demanding a non-player scapegoat pisses me off. It's just bad fandom all around.

Thst high school coach put up 34 points with a freshman non-throwing QB on our defense which boast probably 4 to 5 future forst rounders and many 2-5 round picks.

I don't necessarily think that you are wrong, but at the same time, to act like Bo Nix is devoid of playmaking ability is disingenous. He made some good plays against us, sure, but he showed flashes throughout the season, under pressure no less. He threw a game winning 30+ yard TD in his first game as a college player.

And flashes are what he showed against us. He didn't dominate, or come close. I'd be more concerned if he threw for over 200 yards against us. I'd be more concerned if their kicker didn't all of a sudden start nailing 40+ yard field goals against when he's been whiffing on them all year.

It' was clearly not the dominating unit that we are accustomed to, but I don't think anyone thought that that was going to be the case anyway. I just simply disagree that the AU game is that much of a point of concern for the defense going forward.

Prevatt, you have beat that defensive stat to death. LET IT REST! You aren't going to convince anyone in the other camp that that stat wasn't a measure of playing New Mexico States and Western Carolinas. The only stat that matters to the other camp is the 2 L's to LSU and Auburn where we gave up 40+ points. And your next argument is the pick 6's. WE GET IT! But your damn vaunted defense gave up over 30 in both games. You won't ever believe the defense was bad, and my side won't ever believe the defense was good. So I'll agree to disagree if you will and quit quoting that mother fricking MEANINGLESS S&P STAT!

Then they are too dumb to understand the stat, since it's opponent adjusted specifically to take that into account.

hate to break your superiority complex. but i dont take marching orders from you. because for anyone that can count, 31 outranks 14 every way possible. plus, giving a pass to a defense that gives up 46 points, is asinine.

We need an experienced old school guy on D and a young new school guy on O

We’ve got the opposite right now
