We probably wouldn't have been in under that scenario and I would understand the reasoning behind it.

In this playoff system, so far, conference championships have been very important to the committee.

Eventually that will change, and it may even be this season, but if Penn State wins on Saturday I think they are in and y'all are out.

I may be wrong, and I don't have a vote in it so my opinion means jack shite anyway.

So you are saying that if Ole Miss had pulled out the Arky game last year Bama shouldn't have gotten in right?

I'm just verifying that

Bama would not have made the playoffs last year had that happened. Ohio St, which was probably the 2nd best team last year, didn't make the playoffs. Meyer has been at OSU 5 years, but has only one conference championship to show for it.

SHOULD have? No. But I do think we would have been left out.
SHOULD OSU be left out if PSU wins? No. But I do believe they will be.
The number 1 criteria is conference championships. Not agreeing with that, but that's what the committee always says. We will find out soon how much they value that.

Here's the funny thing: the committee has painted themselves in a corner and it will be interesting to see how they get out of it. They have said all along that conference titles matter. The whole playoff thing came about because of Bama and LSU in 2011 and the argument that Bama shouldn't have even been there. Now they have a scenario that is going to force them to make a choice. IMHO, OSU deserves a slot. They have the better overall resume', the better body of work. But Penn State or Wisky is going to be Big 10 champion. And PSU is a hot team right now. Do you leave either of them out and reward OSU? If so, you just threw your whole conference champion argument out the window. And what do you do with the PAC 12 and Big XII champions? WHo's getting left out? I'm making the assumption Bama and Clemson are in, barring a big upset by Va Tech over Clemson. That leaves 2 slots for OSU, the winner of the Big 10, PAC 12, and Big XII. Two slots for 5 teams with a legit argument. Big XII's is weakest, so let's throw them out for the sake of argument. Now you got OSU, either UDub or Colorado, and either Wiskey or Pedo State. Who gets the boot? Why? All this is doing is setting things up to expand to 8 teams in the playoff to avoid a similar situation in the future. Probably with the Power 5 conference champions earning a spot, and maybe the highest ranked Group of 5 team getting a 6th just to throw them a bone and keep the anti-trust lawyers out of it and two at large spots. It's coming. Just watch.

I don't know, but that could have easily happened.

That's not the #1 thing. There are 4 things they consider with "equal" teams

SOS conference title head yeti head and common opponents. OSU and PSU split those and OSU has less losses

They may have made this model because of the outcry against Bama making it in 2011 despite not playing in the CCG but never underestimate the medias ability to lie manipulate and back track. I think Ohio St still gets in despite all of that, because they are a huge northern media darling. They just have to sell it, and they will.

I also see what Penn State did to Michigan State, as well as what OSUn did to Michigan State (win by stopping an ill advised 2 point play)

If everyone wins out in the P5 conference games, ie. PSU,Bama,Clemson and UW, that will be the playoff without a doubt. If Wisky wins, the OSU has a shot.

In that world they are ignoring PSU's loss OOC and even with winning the conference having a worse resume.

The way you arguing it they would be ignoring OSU getting beat by Penn State.

I think OSU is a top 4 team. The problem for OSU is what the committee will look at. Your resume only holds so much value and just because a few on ESPN say so does not make it so. When the new poll comes out Tuesday OSU will be currently 3-1 vs top 25 because Nebraska will fall out and if PSU wins next week they will also be 3-1 against top 25. The OOC loss was on the road against a team that also beat Clemson, a top 4 team. So teams will be viewed comparable. The edge will go to PSU who will have three things OSU will not. A 13th game to judge their performance on, a conference championship, and a committee who will be watching closely PSU while OSU is sitting at home this coming weekend.

OSU needs Wisconsin to win the game.

Basically that, OSU needs Wisconsin to win and in a good fashion. I have this feeling if Washington wins out it will look like this

Bama
Clemson
Washington
PSU or OSU

I think the decision comes to that. If Wisconsin wins I think they put OSU in if PSU wins they put them at 4 seed. So Buckeye get out your Badger gear.

Essentially the list will be undefeated bama SEC champ, Clemson 1 loss ACC champ, Washington 1 loss PAC12 champ and either Psu who won the big ten and the head to head or OSU who lost once and beat the current big ten champ.
