Don't look now, but Pruitt could actually become available. Seriously.

Posted this on the main board.

Tuned in to Tony Basilio after the Bama game, thinking I'd hear the usual meltdown by Basilio and his listeners (and the occasional Rant troller).

But the game wasn't the topic. I don't know how reliable Basilio's sources are, but he is convinced Pruitt will be fired soon. Among other points...

1. He says that Pruitt has made enemies on campus on the academic side, a couple of which are close to the chancellor.

2. During meetings Friday night, compliance staff pulled coaches and players out for discussions, and that this was disconcerting to the team. Saturday, Niedermeyer apparently was looking like someone had just died. Says Pruitt is obviously lying when he says he knows nothing about the allegations, because of what compliance staff did Friday night.

3. Eric Gray didn't play yesterday because of allegations of receiving improper benefits.

4. UT will use the NCAA allegations to threaten to fire Pruitt with cause and then negotiate a much smaller buyout than if they just fired him for doing a poor job coaching.

5. Says that Freeze has expressed Tennessee, but that because of the NCAA issues, Freeze is untouchable, and that Chadwell of Coastal Carolina is also because of past issues.

How much of this is just Basilio playing to his listeners, and how much is accurate?

So we're gonna immediately hire a head coach in the middle of what sounds like a serious NCAA investigation?

That doesn't sound likely.

We already tried it with Freeze, and that was AFTER the verdict.

After the verdict is settled is a much easier position to sell than not knowing IMHO

We also were told "no". Doubt the SEC office would be fine with us hiring a guy literally fired for and under NCAA investigation for paying recruits and/or players.

I mean I'm all for it, I just don't see it.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not at all suggesting that we should hire him. But it does seem that he will become available. As far as I'm concerned, he will be radioactive. He certainly won't get a HC job for a long time.

Basilio says that Pruitt's temper has also gotten him in trouble in Knoxville. That I can believe. He's not sure how much of the allegations are accurate, and that possible Tennessee is trumping them up a bit to save money when they fire him.

If they do fire him, many Bama fans will likely not get their wish of Pruitt back in Tuscaloosa.

JMO but JP isn't going to buy a player. He might take it as far as he could but no way would he be part of paying for a recruit.

IDGAF what he did at Tenn.

If you add Pruitt to this staff the defense, and talent evaluations in recruiting will get better. Pruitt is elite in this regard. Bring him back. DGAF what anybody thinks or says about it.

Am I sure that Basilio said that? You can listen online yourself.

Apologies. I was joking and asking are you sure that Pruitt knows about allegations.

I can't think of Pruitt and not think of the Asparagus clip.

No worries! Actually, that's why I think he could be too dumb to have known what Niedermeyer was doing.

Watch and see what Saban does. If there's something to these allegations, Saban will know exactly how bad it is. If he brings him in, he'll know there's nothing to worry about. If Saban doesn't bring him in, he's untouchable.

What Pruitt has done as a DC is beyond dispute. But some Alabama fans act liken he's the only guy who can do the job. I have no doubt that Muschamp would be excellent also, and he doesn't bring the NCAA baggage.
