I think he's one of the best. He has a voice that is recognizable and his analaysis is usually pretty good. But sometimes I hate those same qualities when Alabama loses lol, in fact I hate when he calls Bama games period. Everything is so over exaggerated! "Oh my Verne" etc... good guy though

That's actually almost assuredly why he gets any negative feedback. When your team is on the losing side, sometimes you just wanna respond to everything he says with "no shyte, sherlock."

I love Verne, but Danielson....meh. I mean, I like a lot of what he does, but not everything. I enjoy the two together though if I'm watching from home or rewatching after getting home.

I like Danielson...he can be opinionated and some times goes on too long but he's usually an astute analyst...and I think he & Verne are the best college football announcing team around today...they're not perfect but they don't seem to have a bias and work well together...

Don't think any team will ever match Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles as a college football broadcasting team...but I think Verne & Gary are the closest to 'em that we've got today...

quote:

Example: Cody blocks the FG to beat UT in 2009. Amazing scene and the crowd is going crazy. Danielson brings up Cody taking off his helmet before the play was over. He continues to harp on it as Cody, who is full of emotions, walks to the lockerroom with the whole stadium chanting his name. Danielson just vomits over the moment.

Yeah, Danielson was wrong 'bout that. I know several UT fans (as well as Lane Kiffin) were hollering that a flag should've been thrown and UT should've been allowed to re-kick. That is incorrect; if a Cody had been penalized, it still would've been Bama's ball. According to the SEC officials:

"The foul for taking a helmet off is a live ball foul treated as a dead-ball foul," SEC spokesman Charles Bloom explained in an e-mailed statement. "That is, if it happens on a play where time does not expire then the penalty is enforced on the following play. However, since the clock ran out on that play, then there is no next play so there is no penalty to mark off."

Don't know if it's been changed since then, but that was the rule back in 2009...

I think he is okay, but sometimes he underminds his audience too much. I don't think he means to, he's just too thorough sometimes.

Verne is useless for the most part, but he means well, and he is likable in a senile grandpa type way.

I used to be a lot more critical of them, but I've grown to appreciate them for the most part.

SAME... absolutely. Idk why, except that I used to be so loud mouthed about my previous disdain for their product that I haven't just gone full retard and said "I'm a fan."

Verne really doesn't add much except a positive vibe, though. Imagine if we had someone challenging Gary frequently. He'd probably laugh and loosen up a bit more, but he knows the job is HIS to make sure enough is being said. He needs a better counter part for sure.

He's smart, the problem is he is trying to show how smart he is every single play. In the Florida game two weeks ago he stated in the warmups that Driskell would have to have a better day than Sims for Florida to win the game. Then I think in the third he goes on and says, "Like I said in the beginning, Driskel needed to have a better day than Sims and he hasn't so Florida is losing". Something to that effect. His analysis is good, but he brimgs up how right he is every play.

Plus he always kill moments when a receiver is wide open. Bama fans are going nuts when Cooper gets wide open and completes an 80 yard TD while Gary is just saying, "oh geeze, look at that. oh geeze" all monotone.

Either way, better than Verne.

I like him very much actually. Doesn't have the velvet pipes of Keith Jackson but I'm always impressed with his knowledge of the game. Verne is a putz though.

GD had to grow on me over the years. He is one of the most intelligent analysts on television. But he is a yankee and his train of thought is always from the negative. Get past that part of his personality and just listen to his observations. Usually he is spot-on.

I can't stand Verne. Gary is actually very insightful and I like him.

He gets a lot of hate because it's the easy thing to do. Sometimes our fans hate anyone that doesn't praise Saban, Bama, etc.. It's pretty comical.

I mean, really? Stopping play when a RB lowers his head and marking him down at that spot.

For a man who knows football, this suggestion is absurd.

And Verne is a chortling toad.

Hate is such a strong emotion to have regarding someone you only know passively.
