If not for the injury Black would never have redshirted. Bama will also likely need his schollie before he finishes for 5 years.

WRs are not like linemen who need a year of strength and conditioning.

If you redshirt many players, it cuts down on the numbers you can take each year.

Well the person that knows absolutely best will do what just that. I bet if you ask Black himself he would jump on it and we know what Saban has said.

Hell, with the level of recruiting this staff does, I almost think Saban PLANS to only have these guys for 3 years.

I mean can't you hear the pitch?

"If you are good enough to come play for Alabama, you will be even better and the NFL will come calling in three years."

It frees schollys up faster and the main goal for the 5 stars guys is to get drafted early as a Junior.

He's been cleared for contact.

I know it's a completely different situation, but what was the deal with Darius Hanks sitting out last year for a couple of games? I thought it had to do with some sort of redshirt rule, but I can't remember.

Since it was an injury, are there different redshirt rules?

He played past the first few games in 2007, but was injured. He had only played sparingly, so he was eligible to retain his redshirt year. But under the rules he had to sit the first two games of the fifth year.

I almost think being thin at WR will be a net positive. It may save us from Nuss' fascination with 4-wide shotgun formations.

Anyone know if Fowler is gonna be eligible for a 6th year? He's been RS'd before, so anyone think we can get him a medical RS?

So can they do that in reverse? Since he was injured at the beginning of the season?

I forgot all about Hanks. That'd be awesome if he could sit 2 games next year and keep a full yr of eligibility still.

Fowler hasn't beed redshirted before. He should get a medical for this year and be a 4th year junior next year.

Yeah, White is a redshirt Sophomore. I think White and Hart played too many games to get a medical so White will be a junior next year and Dee will be a soph.

shite, you're right. I forgot about the game limit.

WAIT! Isn't it a certain percentage of your team's games? If Bama plays 14 it may help.

I don't fricking know. Either way, eh.

Medical redshirt hardship waiver is particpation in no more than 20% of contests. Round up, would be 3 games.

Injury must occur in first half of the season.

The kid didn't come here to sit on the bench. He came here to play.

If he does things right, he'll get his degree in four years and be ready to go to the NFL, or go out and get a real job. Either way, burning a red shirt does not hamper this kid's life in the least. The only reason not to burn it would be to "save" him for that fifth year in 2016. I'm all for planning for the future, but there is no guarantee that we'll be in this position (SEC/BCS Championship contention) in 2016.

If we think he can contribute, burn it.

Exactly.

But if he's not better(in Saban's eyes) than Norwood, Ch. Jones or Cooper right now then do you burn it for a handful of snaps in a 4 WR set? That could be the question.

He had his redshirt removed due to injuries in the '01 SEC Title Game by Saban, recorded 2 PBUs and still managed to have a solid NFL career(He's 30 and still on a team as a CB). I say the latter because people say Saban is ruining his career by using him this late
