Do you think Chris Black will play?

I'm not sure that burning his RS is the right thing to do, but we are so damn thin at WR now. He was supposedly better than Cooper before his injury and has been practicing for a few weeks now. With White and Bell both out now, all we really have is Norwood and Cooper. Would Black be effective with those two taking up most of UGAs attention?

If he can play and the coaches are worried about our WR depth, then he should play.

I don't see him playing unless there's another injury to Norwood, Cooper or one of the Jones kids. But, I've been wrong before.

A lot depends on what they think of his skill level and NFL prospects. If they feel like he would never be around for a 5th year anyway, then there is no reason to keep him redshirted. He's 5'11" and doesn't possess breakaway speed though, so chances are he was going to be a 4 year player even if he had been playing all season.

I lean towards no. I know he's been practicing the last couple weeks but he hasn't had any contact in several months and has never played in a college game before. Ball security would be a big concern IMO.

I would think he would at least be available if another WR went down. At that point, Alabama basically just wouldn't have the bodies to run its normal offense.

It may be looked at as burning a RS, but it makes more sense to burn it with championships on the line rather than in early season garbage time like we see from time to time.

This is probably the mindset of Saban right now. Hopefully it won't be necessary.

You know who we could really use right about now?

If anything, I think the injury situation at WR will lead to a more run-heavy game plan. Lots of 2 wr sets with Cooper and Norwood, saving Cyrus and Christion to give them a rest or for a few 3rd and longs.

He should either start, or not play at all. id hate to see them run him out on a 3rd and 10 a couple of times.

how is he doing in practice? has he played with the first teamers? WR is probably the easiest to just jump right in and play.

Dunnaway (I think) made the point awhile ago, that, with the hype that some were giving Black in the preseason, he'd be gone in 2 years anyway. Either as a Redshirt Sophomore, or a Junior (having only played 2 games in his Freshman year).

In the past, keeping players an extra year was important, but now, with Alabama's depth (and continued Recruiting dominance), they aren't as important. I mean, we blew a year of eligibility of Mark Barron and Dre Kirkpatrick, just to put them on Special teams their freshman year. Something we've done with Ha Ha and Landon Collins.

I really hope not because that will prob mean we will have lost another wr. Kinda makes wonder about Eddie Williams.

Eddie was moved to safety early on.

IMO, this is actually a positive.

Oh I know, but what if he had stayed, he would have had some PT by now. That was way back when WR was crowded. What practice video I seen of him was not impressive, but a year of practice would had to have helped.

Oh well though, I thought he would have ended up on D eventually.

Don't be surprised if Saban is talking about Black to get the talented but unproven folks (Shinn, Woodson, etc.) to step it up at practice.

@ChaseGoodbread
Chris Black no longer in black jersey and no longer running scout team. Signs point to an SECCG career debut.

I'm excited. Guys on the round table made a good point that UGA will have no film on him. Interdasting.
