Coker may not be all-world, but he's gutsy

Rewatched the game. Yeah, he makes some bone-headed plays, but he's the best we have right now. He put it on the line the other night, especially with his feet. We'll be OK.

How do you know he's the best we have right now? We only saw two qb's play and he is barely above Bateman imo. One has the arm the other has the mental, put the two together and then we have a qb.

I agree Coker made some gutty gritty plays vs OM but he was the reason that he had to make those plays to begin with. If he does not turn the ball over he doesn't have to become superman, he just doesn't have "it" mentally still... and he's what a 5th year sr now?

We can't exactly fuse two guys together. We're still a few years off from that technology. He was playing from behind because of fluke plays, fumbles, and defense, mostly. He's our guy, for better or worse.

Agreed. That drive at the end of the 1st half was impressive.

Really what game were you watching?

He comes in the game down 17-3 scores 4 TDs(3 in the air and 1 on the ground). Three of which came in the 4th quarter. Not to mention that for most of the game our running game was not there.

If it was not for his gritty play we would have not had chances to win the game all the way until the very end.

The sad part is if we would have so many on here would claiming how great he is but he did not and I still give him all the credit for taking this team as a backup in the game and doing everything he could to help the team win.

And to respond to your comment once again he had to make those plays because of two fumbles and Int of Bateman.

The score being 17-3 when he came in is not what I'm getting at. It's when the game was within one possession in the second half, he locks on to one wr and regardless if he is open or not he can not unlock off of his first read. He had 3 tds in the 4th qt.. cool he also had 2 Ints

It was a 7pt game at half and Coker had the entire second half to himself.

He started the 2nd half down 24-10 so a 14 point hole to get of by the time he got on the field, not a 7 point pt but 14pt.

So try again because he is the only reason the game was ever within 7 points in the 2nd half. It was not until the 4th we got back within 7 after he got us there at the end of the 1st half. Yes he threw a late interception that may or may not have got a score, but it was not the reason we lost the game.

Debatable.

You also can't say Bateman is the reason we were down 14 in the first half because he only put us in a 7pt hole, it was Drake's fumble that gave OM the 14 pt lead after the Bateman Int, it's a team effort.

Overall it was a game we should have won and OM had 2 huge fluke plays go their way for TD's at crucial times. We all want the same thing and that's to win so I hope Coker gets it together stops throwing so many Ints, starts making reads and continues to make the good throws he's made at times.

It is debatable and why the blame can not solely be put on Coker as many on here want to do. Way to many contributing factors.

I also not going to take anything away form Ole Miss. They have a great team this year and played exceptionally well. So I will not say we should have won but do believe we could have won.

That running ability we all heard so much about when he first transferred in was finally on display when the pocket broke down a couple times. He willed the team to some first downs.

Totally agree on Gutsy. You can win with gutsy if the game isn't placed squarely on his shoulders.
An offense based on henry and a short passing game while relying on the defense and this team can still win big. Oh yeah and we need scarborough to come in and take 5 or so carries per game.
I will go back to my excel spreadsheets now.

Scarborough will definitely be needed for the games we have coming up. I really hope he's ready by UGA week.

dont know why morris isnt getting a look. if he is truly better at ball security, that is what we need. good decisions. anyone that watched that game could see that we overmatched ole miss, turnovers just killed us. from watching what limited action hes had in spring games, he can make throws downfield

IDGAD what people say regarding Coker. He brought Bama back twice to within 1 score.

Some want to continue to harp on his INT's but yet remain silent on the 2 kickoffs fumbles. OM set the tone on the opening kickoff by flying to the ball and out hitting Bama.

Plenty of blame to go around. And as for the other QB that started...the mofo didn't make the correct read several times and handed off the frigging ball instead of keeping and running.

They should have started with Coker and then stuck with him...doubt we would have won anyway but the change-up at half just further dug us in a hole.

I think we would have won with Coker. He got progressively better as the game went along. Outside of that last int.

If Coker would have started we probably wouldn't have had a 17-3 deficit, and we might not have had to pass quite as much in the second half.

I just have to assume that the coaches know exactly what they are doing, but I don't understand why they wont at least give him a chance.

Fricking Coker. Should have just focused on tackling the receiver on that prayer that Kelly heaved up on third down instead of knocking it down, since OM wouldn't have had a first down. And lineman downfield or not, he should have stayed locked on his man when Kelly looked like he might run it.
