If we could get Nick (Sandkhan) to show up we'd have a blast. I know him personally, but I think he moved to Ohio and he hasn't posted here in forever. I had his number at one point but that was a long time ago.

Alabama doesn’t seem like it’s in the race for Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons, a 5-star defensive end from Harrisburg (Pa.) High School, visited Tuscaloosa for the first time in July. He stayed on campus for three days, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be enough to get him back on campus this fall for an official visit.

Parsons, the nation’s No. 1 weakside defensive end, spoke with Land of 10 Penn State recruiting reporter Tyler Donohue on Tuesday at his U.S. Army All-America jersey presentation.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect recently tweeted that he was going to be dropping a top 4 list soon, and it doesn’t seem like Alabama will make the cut if we read into his father’s comments.

“Our next visit is Nebraska [Oct. 6],” said Terrence Parsons, Micah’s father. “Then, we’re going to try to make it out to Georgia and then, hopefully, back up to Penn State. But the way the [Harrisburg] football season is, with games on Saturdays, it’s a struggle.”

Parsons has already taken an official visit to Ohio State and the Nebraska trip is the only one he has set right now. It seems like Georgia and Penn State are the other two teams that are likely going to be on that top 4 list when he decides to release it.

Is there any chance he can make it to Tuscaloosa this fall for a game?

“The Nebraska visit could be our last visit, depending if we can swing one down to Georgia. Other than that, it’s going to be too hard. I know [Alabama] reached out, but it’s just hard.”

While Parsons is ranked as the nation’s No. 5 overall player, SEC Country was told by a source that there are some people inside the Alabama program who are split on actually wanting him in this class due to maturity issues. One example of his lack of maturity was him tweeting that Ohio State should replace starting quarterback J.T. Barrett with Dwayne Haskins. Citing sources, Land of 10’s Jeremy Birmingham said there were several players in the OSU locker room who were “pissed” about Parsons’ tweet while he was in Columbus on his official visit paid for by the school.

It’s probably not wise to displease several players who could be your future teammates. Don’t get it twisted: If Parsons wasn’t as elite of an athlete as he is, the Buckeyes would just revoke his scholarship offer. Like Alabama, Ohio State can generally get whichever recruit it wants. The Buckeyes don’t need to put up with that nonsense. And that’s what Alabama is battling over right now. Is Parsons worth the potential headache he may be inside Alabama’s program, a program that is known for discipline?

I don’t know Parsons personally — but from what I’ve been told — he just doesn’t seem like he has the personality that would fit in a program such as Alabama’s.

Parsons is being recruited by Alabama as a Jack linebacker, which eases the pain of missing out on a player such as Parsons because the Crimson Tide are going to sign several elite players at the position. The Crimson Tide already have commitments from two Jack linebackers in 4-star prospects Jordan Davis and Cameron Latu. Alabama also is in the mix for 5-star Jack linebacker KJ Henry and 4-star prospects Adam Anderson and Eyabi Anoma.

Luke Ford plays 4 games with broken clavicle

The slogan “Built Ford Tough” really applies here for major Alabama tight end target Luke Ford.

Ford, the nation’s No. 2 tight end from Carterville (Ill.) High School, played the first four games of his senior season with a broken clavicle. That injury usually sidelines football players for the majority of the season, but not Ford. How does one continue playing through a serious injury like that?

“He had X-rays after the first game and either the radiologist missed it or there was swelling that kind of obscured it,” his father, Timothy, told DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell. “But after X-rays and an [orthopedic surgeon] visit [Tuesday], the fracture is clearly visible [from] four weeks ago and right now.”

Ford will be in a sling for about 4-6 weeks. He probably will be back in time for the Illinois state playoffs. His father said the teams recruiting him have been notified of his son’s injury.

If anything, having the ability to play through a broken clavicle will only salivate the mouths of all the coaches recruiting Ford.

Good grief that's one tough arse kid.

Should Gator fans be worried about your boy Jacob Copeland

— Sonny Crockett (@GatorCrockettWR) September 19, 2017

Abolverdi: Gator fans — and, more importantly, Florida coaches — always had to worry about Jacob Copeland. His visit to Alabama on Saturday — while concerning — comes as no surprise to the staff or SEC Country.

Heading into the summer, Copeland intended take all five official visits this fall and choose a school at the Under Armour All-America Game. However, his trip to Florida for Friday Night Lights really won him over, and he decided to commit earlier than initially planned.

However, before shooting his commitment video exclusively with SEC Country, Copeland checked with the coaches to make sure he could still visit other schools as a Florida commit. Understandably, they obliged in order to secure his pledge.

You don’t turn down a top-50 overall recruit when he wants to join your class, especially if he’s going to take trips no matter what. The Florida staff has invested more than three years into Copeland’s recruitment, so they’re committed to him at this point — regardless of where he’s at with his process.

Until Copeland is signed, sealed and delivered, his commitment will be cause for concern with Nick Saban on his trail. That being said, I expect Copeland to stick with the Gators because of his relationship with the staff and attachment to the football program. Alabama recruiting reporter Chris Kirschner of SEC Country concurs.

Only a sophomore, Drew Pyne has a lengthy offer sheet and has started to take some visits. The New Canaan, Conn. star visited Notre Dame for the Georgia game and had plenty to say about his experience in South Bend.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

“We got there on Saturday and walked around the campus with my family,” Pyne said. “I’ve watched Rudy a lot so it was cool to walk around and see where he was. Going to the game and hearing those trumpets and seeing everything on the field was awesome. The tradition there is unbelievable. I was really thankful to be there.

“After the tour we went back to the facility to meet with the coaches,” he said. “We saw the players walk in and I was on the field before the game. It was a great game to watch. Coach Rees is a great guy. I love him. He played there and I watched him. I threw for him over the summer. It was good to see him again. He's a great guy.

“Brandon Wimbush is an unbelievable kid,” said Pyne. “My brother played against him in high school. He’s a baller. Their offensive line is ridiculous. Their running backs and wide receivers are really good too. It was really fun to see them play, especially against a SEC team. Georgia is really good too. It was really fun to see those two teams compete. Hopefully I could be compared to Brandon Wimbush. He’s unbelievable. I just need to get better. I love watching him play.

“We sat right in the crowd it was pretty crazy,” he said. “We saw them throw the fans up in the air so that was pretty cool. There's a ton of tradition. I think it took them a long time to put the video board up in the stadium so they do things pretty cool there.

“I think I'm going to go to games at Penn State, Alabama, Oklahoma, and one or two more somewhere else,” Pyne said. “Oklahoma against TCU would be fun. Penn State against Michigan maybe. I might try to go to Alabama when they play LSU.

“When I go on visits it’s different everywhere you go,” he said. “I'm just really thankful for everything. At the end of the day, all the schools have great facilities so it’s about the coaches that are there and if it’s the right fit. I talked to the coaches when I go on visits and we try to stay in touch but it's all about my relationship with coaches in finding the right fit.

“I really like all the opportunities that I have,” said Pyne. “I'm looking at the offers that I already have and am thankful for any more opportunities that come my way. I'm trying to talk to as many coaches as I can so I can build relationships. It's about the relationships, not facilities.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Pyne is clearly just at the beginning of his recruitment and is working on finding out more about the schools that have offered him. Notre Dame made a good first impression but lots of schools are going to get their chance with Pyne. Penn State, Oklahoma, and Alabama are just a few of the schools Pyne will be considering down the road. Anybody handicapping Pyne’s recruitment at this point is purely speculating.

Vols zeroing in on final 2018 OL?

Tennessee has been trying to secure a commitment from one more offensive lineman in the Class of 2018, and Cordova, Tenn., native Jerome Carvin seems to be the top target.

And now, Carvin has given SEC Country an update on his recruitment.

“My recruitment is going really well,” Carvin said. “Teams standing out to me right now are Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi State and Arkansas. Arkansas has been coming real hard. Michigan, Auburn and Ole Miss are coming hard, too.”

But when it came to a leader, Carvin wouldn’t name any schools.

“I wouldn’t say a leader right now,” Carvin said. “All those teams are in a battle right now. They all are recruiting hard.”

He will take official visits to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Alabama and Arkansas, though. These, to me, are the clear leaders in his recruitment.

I think the Razorbacks are in the back of the clubhouse at the moment and short of them knocking the visit out of the park, they don’t have much of a shot.

Alabama plainly doesn’t have the room for him at the moment. Of course, that could change with de-commitments. The way the Crimson Tide’s class stands now, however, Carvin likely won’t end up in Tuscaloosa next fall.

Carvin attended the Mississippi State game against LSU last Saturday, and his posts on social media seemed to indicate he enjoyed his time. The Bulldogs also thrashed LSU in front of a near-sellout crowd at Davis Wade Stadium, which couldn’t have hurt his opinion of the school.

Mississippi State has come on strong over the past month and probably pose the biggest threat for snagging Carvin.

Arkansas TE target Luke Ford to have surgery on collarbone

Arkansas tight end target Luke Ford is set to have surgery on his broken collarbone and miss 4-6 weeks. The injury is an unfortunate setback for the former Razorbacks commit from Carterville, Ill.

But there’s something incredibly impressive about the injury itself: Ford played with it for four weeks.

That’s right, Ford initially sustained the injury Aug. 25 in his season opener. He got X-rays after that game, but doctors said there was no break and diagnosed him with a bone bruise.

“Either the radiologist missed it or there was swelling that kind of obscured it,” Luke’s father, Timothy, told DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell.

Following Luke’s fourth game of the season last Friday, Timothy became certain his son needed another opinion. The X-rays this time around revealed a clearly visible break that is severe enough to require surgery — reality that was confirmed with a visit to an orthopedic surgeon Tuesday.

There’s little doubt the fracture became more significant while playing the past three weeks. There’s also now little doubt Ford is among the toughest 2018 recruits in the country.

He was already one of the most coveted. He is 4-star recruit and No. 47 overall prospect in the class according to the 247Sports composite. He committed to Arkansas in March but rescinded his pledge three months later. His desire to visit other schools led him to the decision, because the Hogs have a no-visit policy for commits.

However, he still considers the Razorbacks one of his top options. Tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. attended his game last Friday, which impressed Ford.

Have Alabama football recruiting questions? We have the answers. Join us every Wednesday for the SEC Country Alabama recruiting mailbag to discuss Crimson Tide recruiting.

This week, we discuss LSU’s struggles and how that could impact Alabama, who the next commitment could possibly be, the team’s junior college targets and more.

Let’s get to your questions.

If LSU continues to struggle, how does that impact Bama’s chances of flipping Kelvin Joseph or getting Patrick Surtain Jr.?

From @rick_schnell

This was a great question, Rick, and one that could certainly come into play in the next few months.

LSU looked atrocious against Mississippi State in its 37-7 loss last Saturday. That could be a testament to how good of a team Mississippi State is, but we’ll find out more this weekend when it takes on Georgia. After watching the game, though, I tend to think that the Tigers may just be a bad football team.

That will certainly cause LSU to take a hit on the recruiting trail. Kelvin Joseph, a 4-star defensive back from Scotlandville Magnet High School (Baton Rouge, La.) who you asked about, told SEC Country multiple times this offseason that he was going to closely watch how the Tigers looked this season before making a final decision on whether he’ll stick with his commitment. It should be noted that Joseph has said before that he was very close to flipping to Alabama.

I know Joseph is very locked in with LSU, but he remains in contact with the Alabama staff and is one of the team’s top safety targets. If things start to implode at LSU, he’s one to watch.

When it comes to 5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., he’s been a major Alabama target since he became a national recruit. He’s one of the Tide’s top targets, but the team has always trailed LSU. The Tigers have led pretty much since he became a major recruit for schools coast to coast. I think a bad season for LSU could definitely help Alabama here, but the team needs to get him back on campus for an official visit this fall. I know he talks weekly with coach Nick Saban and daily with Alabama defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley.

Who are our legitimate 5-star targets and where do we stand with each currently?

From @hackzubbard

Surtain Jr., Tyson Campbell and KJ Henry are the legitimate 5-star targets at this time.

I think Alabama lands Campbell, the nation’s No. 3 cornerback. There’s a good chance at landing Henry, a Jack linebacker. It’s likely a two-team race between Alabama and Clemson at this time.

I mentioned Surtain Jr. in the question above.

Who’s going to be the next commitment? Will Jalen Cunningham get the offer? Who are our targets on the OL?

From @insider_alabama

We’ll break your questions up into three paragraphs.

There isn’t a clear candidate as for who could be the next commitment. Bobby Brown, a 4-star defensive tackle target from Lamar High School (Arlington, Texas), has a set commitment date of Nov. 2. That bodes well for Alabama because he’s scheduled to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa on Oct. 21 for Alabama’s game against Tennessee. Brown has been projected in my mock signing class for several months now, and with him taking an official visit just two weeks prior to a decision, it sets up nicely for the Tide.

I think Jalen Cunningham, a 3-star nose tackle from St. Clair County High School (Odenville, Ala.), will ultimately get the green light from Alabama to commit. If he does, then he’d be the next to commit. He already told SEC Country that he will commit if Alabama tells him he can. With this being a down year for interior linemen, and Alabama needing several, I think he’ll get the news he wants. The interest in Cunningham is certainly there from Alabama’s end as defensive line coach Karl Dunbar was at his high school game this past Friday. If Alabama wasn’t interested, it wouldn’t have sent an assistant to watch his game. Cunningham is coming off a turf toe injury, so these first few games and how he bounces back from the injury will be important.

Alabama already has two offensive line commitments in 4-star tackle Tommy Brown and 3-star guard/center Jarrett Bell. The Tide would like to add one or two more on the offensive line. The main targets to know are 4-star tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and 4-star guards Penei Sewell and Emil Ekiyor. Right now, I have Sewell projected in Alabama’s class. The Tide are strongly in the mix for Petit-Frere and Ekiyor, who’s committed to Michigan but has made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa.

Who do you think we get from JUCO? Who are we looking to flip?

From @Seagrove_Beach

I think Alabama will get two junior college prospects right now. Saivion Smith, a former 5-star prospect and LSU cornerback, and Caleb Tremblay, a 4-star defensive tackle, are my picks to join the Tide’s 2018 class. I feel very confident that both of these players will choose Alabama when they make their commitments.

There are several players Alabama is looking to flip from other schools. I’ll bullet point them so it’s easier to see:

Joseph, who we mentioned above.
Ekiyor, who we mentioned above.
Zamir White, 5-star running back — committed to Georgia.
Brandon Kaho, 4-star linebacker — committed to BYU.
Emory Jones, 4-star quarterback — committed to Ohio State.
Asa Martin, 4-star running back — committed to Auburn.
Jacob Copeland, 4-star wide receiver — committed to Florida.
Dominick Wood-Anderson, 4-star tight end — committed to Texas.
Josh Jobe, 4-star cornerback — committed to Miami.
