Tennessee coach Butch Jones received a lot of criticism for the lack of in-state recruiting in the Class of 2017.

He has taken a different approach this cycle, and it has paid off. Tennessee has commitments from nine prospects in the class of 2018 from the Volunteer State and eight rank in SEC Country’s top 20.

The Vols have benefitted from better in-state talent over the past 10-to-15 years, and the trend looks to be continuing. Tennessee will need to continue to find ways to bring the top talent in the state to Knoxville, because that is the best chance for the Vols to return to the top of the SEC.

SEC Country has studied the prospects from Tennessee and ranked the top 20 players in the Class of 2018.

Here’s the countdown:

4. 4-star DE Jordan Davis (6-5, 238 pounds), Alabama

Any time a defensive lineman receives a committable offer from the Crimson Tide, it’s noteworthy.

Jordan Davis’ pass-rushing skills off the edge might even be better than Greg Emerson’s at the moment. Alabama coach Nick Saban must be able to envision the big, athletic frame as a productive SEC pass rusher down the line.

Davis plays for Southwind High School in Memphis. He plays against some of the most athletic players in the South and his play stands out from the rest.

This guy is seriously overlooked by our fan base. He is a mean SOB coming off the edge.

For those interested I put in an offer on a place in Prattville tonight, and yes, it has a pool.

Are we all on board with signing two QBs in 2019 in Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa?

I think they are both awesome.

I think we are definitely moving in the direction of two QBs for 2019. Because I have no faith there will be a QB in the 2018 class.

Tim Watts' kids go to Thompson. He said Lil Tua is as accurate as any QB he's seen. Having said that, Tyson was 12 of 12 for 240 yards in the first half Friday night.

That's the kind of QBs I want. Accuracy is one of the most underrated statistics out there.

I'd like to see a typical pro style and a mobile QB signed if Alabama is taking two. Is Taulia Tagovailoa more athletic than his brother?

No. Believe it or not, but Taulia actually passed for more yards than Tua last year.

He's shorter, but that doesn't appear to be affecting his effectiveness. His left tackle is Amari Kight at Thompson who is damn near 6'8". We'll land him too.

I think they play well off each other to do so.

Taulia is a little more athletic and considered as of now to be the better talent. However, he is an undersized QB more so than even his brother was(though might be the better passer).

Tyson is built like a prototypical QB and is a legacy, but is just now showing his skills as a starter.

Then give me DJ Uiagelelei in 2020 assuming he doesn't shite the bed as a starter. Built in a lab...

I mean, think about this for a second. We could potentially pull the left tackles and QBs for two of the Top 5 schools in the state next year.

Pierce Quick and Paul Tyson from Hewitt-Trussville.

Amari Kight and Taulia Tagovailoa from Thompson.

Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Thompson just needs a 2020 WR Bama can pair with Dazalin Worsham.

I saw a video of Ugalalei throwing the ball 80+ yards. Ridiculous arm talent. Is his accuracy worth a damn would be my question, but he's already damn near 250 pounds and has 3 years of high school left. He's a freak.

Paul Tyson is building his resume up each and every week. He reminds me of AJ at this point, but dare I say he has a higher ceiling. He has looked great so far this year as a first year starter.

Taulia may be the best pure passer of the bunch, but he's so short. If he was 6'2" he'd be a high 4-star already.

Somebody is catching Taulia's passes. They may have a kid in 2020 to match Worsham.

There's a garbage time clip or two of DJ out there, his ball has so much zip with little effort. He moves well for his size too.

Sky is the limit for Tyson, he is definitely proving people right so far. If Taulia would have flopped moving to the state, I could have seen them stepping back. Yet it was seemingly seamless, makes it hard to ignore his talent because of his size.

The problem is he is in California. We haven't had much success with QBs from there.

Barnes.

Barnett.

Tyson has a natural throwing motion and is extremely accurate.

Lil Tua is small but he appears to have a cannon.
