Jeffrey McCulloch has been a rising standout in recruiting. He is inching closer to 30 offers and has Texas, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan and Oregon high on his list, according to 247Sports. Keep an eye on how Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Baylor recruits him as the spring approaches.

Bleacher Report Analysis

You don't get the nickname The Shark for being a softy on the football field. McCulloch is a ball-hawking defender who loves to deliver the big hit. He plays with a high motor and a lot of instincts, which make him a dangerous player from sideline to sideline.

Linebackers are bred in the Ferns household, and Brendan Ferns is the next in line. He is continuing the path that his older brother, 2014 Michigan signee Michael Ferns, set. Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Oregon, Alabama and a host of other schools have already made offers.

Ferns took an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Jan. 25, according to 247Sports. He's also had multiple coaches come in to see him during the offseason.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Ferns is the kind of player who is versatile enough to line up at several positions. He can be an inside linebacker or outside linebacker, and if he chose to bulk up, he'd make for a reliable defensive end at the next level. Ferns is a savvy football player who likes playing sideline to sideline.

The offer list continues to grow for Ben Davis, who is now entertaining interest from more than 20 schools. Davis is the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama, and he's a prime target for both Alabama and Auburn. He's made several unofficial visits to both schools.

Per 247Sports, Davis also is considering Florida, Georgia and LSU in what appears to an all-SEC race for his commitment. Whichever school lands the 5-star prospect will get an outstanding player.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Looking at Davis' size alone, he's everything a college linebackers coach wants in a prospect. He is a tall, quick linebacker who possesses good length and a lot of athleticism. An instinctive player, Davis has shown that he can be a decent pass-rusher in addition to playing in his zone.

Lyndell Wilson is determined to keep all of his options open, but on Jan. 22, he announced his top seven schools via Twitter. Oregon, Alabama, Auburn, Louisville, Tennessee, Georgia and USC all made the list, although there is still time for other schools to make their way up Wilson's ladder.

Alabama is a strong contender in Wilson's recruiting race. He's made multiple unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa, but he's also visited Auburn and Tennessee, according to 247Sports.

Bleacher Report Analysis

Although Wilson is an outstanding tackler and a physical athlete, his instincts are among his best qualities. He is quick to read a play and make the right decision. Wilson brings a level of toughness to a defensive front seven, and his tenacity will be welcomed at the next level.

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 2 overall; No. 1 defensive tackle

High School: Paramus Catholic (Paramus, New Jersey)

Recruitment Status: Uncommitted

Why He's Worth the Hype

Rashan Gary has massive shoes to fill as the nation's top defensive tackle prospect, replacing 5-star Georgia signee Trent Thompson. Still, the 6'4", 285-pound prospect appears primed to make a run at the No. 1 overall spot in recruit rankings.

He racked up 55 tackles—including 24 for loss—14 sacks and 24 quarterback hurries last season, according to Hunt of NJ.com. I scouted Gary when he took on 4-star quarterback Jarrett Guarantano and Bergen Catholic last October, watching him tally five sacks and a punt block that resulted in a touchdown return for the dominant defensive lineman.

"He's isn't just big; he's fast off the ball and stays low," 5-star Florida signee Martez Ivey told me after competing against him last summer. "He's very physical too and doesn't let opponents get into his head. That's great to see out of a young guy."

Gary, who is considering an expansive list of options that includes Ohio State, Alabama, Rutgers and Michigan, impressed as a rare underclassman selection at the 2014 edition of The Opening.

"He was great and we all noticed it throughout the week," 5-star Texas A&M defensive tackle signee Daylon Mack said. "You're watching a 2016 guy with big size, rare speed and dreadlocks that make him look dangerous. Some might have questioned his toughness, but when Rashan put on the pads, he didn't disappoint."

Defensive tackle Keyshon Camp considering Alabama after backing off Miami commitment

Just three days ago, Lakeland, Fla., defensive tackle Keyshon Camp earned an offer from Alabama.

Today, Camp decommitted from Miami. He told AL.com that he didn't back off his commitment because of the Alabama offer, but wanted to consider all options.

Camp tweeted that Miami is still No. 1. He also has offers from the likes of Florida, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Iowa state, Marshall and Georgia Southern, but the 6-foot-4, 265-pound Camp was excited to get the offer, which came from Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

"I like Alabama because they are known for winning," Camp said. "I was very overwhelmed when they offered. I never thought I could say I have an offer (from) Alabama."

Camp is rated as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports composite, but 247Sports has Camp as a four-star in its individual rankings.

Camp said he wants to try and make Alabama's spring game on April 18.

Carver's Davidson playing despite mother's death

BIRMINGHAM --- On the field and on the court, Marlon Davidson is known for his strength.

But in the Class 6A state semifinals Thursday against Woodlawn, the G.W. Carver standout has to be stronger than he's ever been.

This isn't the strength you find in a weight room, it's deeper than athleticism. The five-star athlete has found the courage to play in honor of his mother, Cynthia Carter, who passed away Monday evening.

"I feel like showing the team that I'm strong for my mom, that they can pull this game off and be strong for themselves and the team to finish and get this ring this year. The only reason I'm here is because I felt like my mom would want me to be here," Davidson said. "I feel like she would be pushing me to come here. So I went to school Tuesday with my head held high. I was proud of myself that I didn't break down in school. Just thinking about her really hurts me. Luckily I got through the day."

Davidson is known more for his football accomplishments. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end is the No. 2 player in the country according to Rivals, fielding offers from powerhouses across the country.

On the court, Davidson's frame and athleticism provide the Wolverines with a solid backup big. He traveled with the Wolverines to Birmingham on Tuesday for practice at Samford. He was laughing, joking with his teammates. It was a necessary escape.

"I just couldn't bear to be in the house because of all the pictures. I just didn't feel strong there," Davidson said. "In the last 24 hours, I might've had three hours of sleep. I just can't stop thinking about her face. Just thinking about the stuff she taught me. Just thinking about what she'd want from me. What she saw in me, and just seeing her face occurring and occurring, it really hurts me. Because I feel like if I would've been there I could've at least helped. But God takes people away for a reason. To either make you stronger or to become a better man or woman."

Carter had been dealing with pain in her leg. The doctors told her it was tendinitis during her visit last Thursday. Feeling no relief, she went to a walk-in clinic on Monday.

"When she was coming out, they said she collapsed. And when she collapsed, she hit the back of her head on the concrete," Davidson said. "They rushed her to the hospital as fast as they could, but they said she was fighting so long, it's like she just gave out."

Carver coach James "J.J." Jackson would've understood if Davidson wanted to stay home. After losing his mother as a high school senior, he understood all too well.

"I lost my mom during the season and my dad and coach told me at the same time it was my decision if I wanted to play or not. I wanted to play and I did. I had a pretty good game, and afterward it kind of weighs heavy on you. But it kind of keeps your mind off it a little bit just to go about your way until you get yourself together," Jackson said. "I told him that it was his decision if he wanted to ride with us. But he called and said, 'Coach, I'd like to still go and be with the team and do my part.' I thought that was tremendous. That weighed heavy on my heart. He's a bright young man with a great future, and his mom did a great job with him."

Davidson said his mother attended all of his football games, regardless of location. She made all the basketball games her schedule allowed. He knows she'll be there Thursday.

"I feel like she'll be there with me, guiding me through the game and helping me cheer on my teammates. Helping me play the best game I can play," Davidson said. "Just her being there for me, and knowing that she's always going to be behind me back, my guardian angel. I'll take that 100 percent of the day. Because now she's watching my every step. When she was here she couldn't. Now she is."

Some info on Ben Davis from the Auburn recruiting thread:

quote:
We already have and will continue to. He is saying all the right things and gives the genuine appearence he is open. Here are a couple of things most people don't know about him. He spent a lot of his life growing up living in Arizoae. Also LSU was his favorite team growing up not Bama.

I didn't realize he grew up an LSU fan. That's strange.

AU mods are so full of shite, he moved back to Gordo in the 5th grade from AZ. Not like that 4th grade and below time out here in the desert influenced him. How many times has he been quoted about growing up loving the Tide? Expressed many times how Alabama football was always on the TV and played a major role in his families' life. Here is one article which says he grew up loving the Tide, not going to waste my time finding others:

Barn mods are just trying to give their fans some hope, just so they can be disappointed again.

I hope they think they're getting Davis. Im sure the more logical ones know that is a pipedream. Gordo is basically in tuscaloosa and his dad is a former star. Alabama should get the clean sweep with Davis Wilson and Davidson. Davidson is the least likely.

He's not even a take a FB, he's certainly not coming to Bama as a RB.

Pass said in an interview that UNC and UA are tied at the top.
Says Auburn was late in offering him (his 20th offer).
He used to work at Auburn selling popcorn at home football games his freshman year.
Talked about UNC coach, offense, wants his mom to meet the coaches and see the campus.
All he said with us is to see what we want from him. Already has a good feel of UA from his previous visits.
Will decide before August.

(cb's note: no mention of Louisville during the interview)
