Keith Gavin's Highlights for those who haven't seen them yet.

I haven't. I'm going to watch them after Simmons.

Simmons touched on what he likes about being on the Alabama campus.

“Just the environment,” Simmons said. “I love the atmosphere.”

Another elite Mississippi defensive prospect and Tide commit has been in Simmons’ ear as of late.

“Yes, Raekwon (Davis has been recruiting me),” Simmons said.

Is Davis recruiting him to Alabama or LSU?

A few things that I've learned on the MS guys recently from my usual sources (of whom most all of you know who I mean).

LSU really does think they can flip Raekwon. They feel better than the MS schools at this point. Our staff feels pretty good as well.

Both AL and MSU have apparently gotten a private commitment at some point from Simmons. Some talent evaluators/coaches think he might be the best DL in the country. While it's a down-right filthy year for DL recruiting both regionally and nationally, his first game tends to give this some legitimacy. Whatever the case, Ole Miss has recently identified him as one they need to sign badly. That doe$n't give me warm fuzzie$ regardless of how strong we look with him right now.

There are a couple talent evaluators who think Nigel Knott is a combine freak who is a bit overrated at this point as a pure football player. I, personally, am willing to take that risk if we can sign him. It's a shame he's injured this year, as he really seemed to explode in the camps this Fall.

Both Rodney on TI and Drew infer that our staff is in love with AJ Brown as a WR, and is likely the top WR on the board or right at the top with a couple other guys. Redfish indicated we feel very confident with him right now.

I really hope we can turn things around in MS this year. If it doesn't happen this year, it may never. Weird, weird situation that makes no logical sense at all.

Well he is playing high school football in Mississippi where "3 yards and a cloud of dust" is the offense and gameplan of choice.

Hardly anyone outside of Oak Grove runs a pass first offense. Kind of hard to get quality reps as a CB in that state.

I guess the question now is who gets left out of Mykel Jones and Cavin Ridley assuming we land Gavin and AJ Brown. No way we would take 5 WRs in this class.

Only the best of the best can make the Rivals250, but that doesn't mean there weren't plenty of other players who helped their stock during the summer camp evaluation period. Our team of national analysts identified seven players that earned their fourth star, and while they didn't quite crack the R250 this time, they are still worthy of being recognized for impressive summer showings. Here's a recap of who moved up and why their stock is on the rise.

TE Nick Eubanks

Eubanks looks the part. He also moves relatively well for his massive size (6-6, 208). He's established himself as a threat in the passing game, but will need to develop as a blocker before he arrives on a college campus. -- Cassidy

WR Velus Jones

Jones' long arms and lean frame allow him to play bigger than his 6-foot frame. He has a knack for hauling in offline passes and has the dexterity to contort himself to make incredible catches. Jones' strength is his power and athleticism, but it's not as though he's slow either. Jones has enough speed to make corners pay for attempting to press him. -- Rob Cassidy, Southeast Analyst

I guess we aren't going to offer this kid after all.

With the high-profile commitments last week of five-star Hunter Johnson (Tennessee) and four-star Tate Martell (Texas A&M), the 2017 quarterback class suddenly became slimmer.

Among the 11 elite quarterbacks in the class with Rivals Ratings of 5.9 or higher, seven have given early commitments this summer. In addition to Tennessee and Texas A&M in the SEC, Florida (Jake Allen), Georgia (Bailey Hockman) and Auburn (Lowell Narcisse) have also locked up their QBs. The other two commits are headed to the Big 12, with Shawn Robinson committing to TCU and Chris Robison to Oklahoma.

That leaves four quarterbacks still on the market with Rivals rankings at the 6.0 or 5.9 level. Here are updates on where they stand as their junior seasons get underway:

We've only offered two uncommitted 2017 QBs. One is listed below. The other is Jake Fromm who is not in the article.

PQB Tristan Gebbia
Calabasas, Calif.

Where he stands: Gebbia has made it perfectly clear for a long time that he's in no rush to make a commitment and is only starting to take a serious look at the schools that have offered him.

According to sources, Nebraska and Arizona State could hold a slight edge in his recruitment at this point, but it's a narrow margin and things could certainly change in the coming months. A big junior season -- Calabasas is loaded with young talent -- could open up even more opportunities and if Michigan or Michigan State offers, then those two programs would be strongly considered and could join that top group.

Gebbia has made it a point not to lock in on frontrunners and stay wide open across the board with offers. In due time, the four-star prospect will break things down further, but so much could still happen through this season. He went to Stanford this summer but was not offered. That would have been a major one. The local schools -- UCLA and USC - have not offered yet, either, so it's still in the early innings. Nebraska is making a serious run at a lot of top Calabasas talent and Gebbia is certainly on the radar after the Huskers recently offered.

In the hunt

Players discussed for a fifth star include Ole Miss wide receiver commitment DeKaylin Metcalf, fellow wide receiver Drake Davis, defensive end Antonneous Clayton, fellow defensive end and UCLA commitment Wole Betiku and cornerback Nigel Knott. With Metcalf, we want to see him get a bit faster and gain more consistent separation and with Davis he has the athletic skills of a five-star but a year off from football means he needs to prove a few things.

Clayton is raw but a huge senior year could propel him. Betiku is probably more raw than Clayton, but he's a physical freak and if he smooths out some of the rough edges, watch out. And with Knott, he was all but locked up for that fifth star before his knee injury. There were others mentioned and some of these players will drop out of the discussion after their senior season and all-star season, while new ones will emerge. But these were the guys I felt deserved mention.

Take a position

Some guys to keep an eye on, call it a hunch of mine -- how about the weakside defensive ends in addition to Clayton? Janarius Robinson, an FSU commitment, Terrell Hall and Brandon Bowen are all athletic freaks who lead a really strong position group. I also like Ohio State commitment Jonathon Cooper a lot, but his lack of size is an issue. Still, that kid is going to be a pass-rushing maniac in Columbus.

At strongside, I would keep an eye on Jeffery Simmons as well. Every year there seems to be a Mississippi monster lineman or linebacker who is under-ranked and has a coming-out party on the all-star circuit and this kid could be it. And finally, two West Coast cornerbacks in Jack Jones and Byron Murphy are both ballers, and I like Chauncey Gardner at cornerback as well. Over the last three years, we have had 11 five-star cornerbacks (2013, 2014 and 2015) and this year we only have one, Levonta Taylor. Watch for these guys, in addition to Knott, to make a push.

Aside from five-star Ben Davis, it is a weak year at inside linebacker, so I expect a few guys to step up and emerge and a few outside linebackers to show that they are more inside guys than we thought. I don't see the position staying this way, at least not at the top.

Final word

Finally, I don't do the rankings myself. It is a team effort and input from each regional analyst is weighed very, very heavily as these guys get to see their own players more often than I do. That being said, who would I have rated higher, and who would I have rated lower?

I'd have wide receiver Cavin Ridley higher as I think he's going to be an absolute beast at the next level despite being much less polished than his older brother, Calvin Ridley, at the same stage. Of course this is coming from the guy who overshot on Darnell Salomon, so take it for what it's worth. And I just never bought into Shavar Manuel as much as some others, so it will be interesting to see how he pans out. My Florida guy, Rob Cassidy, is also a big Ridley fan, but is really, really high on Binjimen Victor at wide receiver. In his defense, he inherited the Manuel ranking as he wasn't covering the state when Shavar was first ranked. The state of Florida is not even close to as strong as it was last year, even with all the IMG guys from out of state being considered Florida prospects, so there should be plenty of shake-up coming down the line.

Imagine Verne trying to call that.

"And Barnett passes to Cavin Ridley!"

"That was Calvin, Verne."

"Who?"

(I love me some Verne though)

That's true. And a good point. Like I said, I sure as heck hope we sign him. He's be getting elite coaching, and by all appearances is an elite athlete.

Can you imagine the speed we could put on the field at any one time with Tony Brown, Hump, Minkah, Sheffield, and Knott?

I'd have to guess Cavin based on taking the rest of his "foster family" apparently, and the fact that he had a blowout camp last month.
