Kendall Sheffield
247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 16 overall; No. 3 among cornerbacks
High School Success
Kendall Sheffield, a state-champion hurdler, has athletic abilities that stand up against any cornerback in this class. The 6'0", 181-pound playmaker is smooth in downfield coverage, makes up ground in a hurry and hits with ferocity.
He picked off six passes during the past two seasons at Fort Bend Marshall High School. His most impressive progress has come as a run defender, as Sheffield flashes instincts and necessary willingness to make an impact near the line of scrimmage.
Recruitment Status
Marshall is widely expected to end up in the SEC, but this visit to Ohio State shows he's at least willing to explore other options. The Buckeyes are attempting to land a top-tier cornerback in this class and hosted 5-star Florida prospect Kevin Toliver on campus earlier this month.
Alabama and Texas A&M have emerged as the favorites to land Marshall. He is expected to use an official visit at Florida State in October.

Is any number more significant than the final score?
Though the key to building a successful season is actually winning games, identifying the driving force behind victories is critical in predicting continued success.
Whether it’s rushing yards, turnover margin, sacking the quarterback or defending the pass, every great team is great at something specific.
It’s why Florida State’s No. 18-ranked rushing defense mattered last season, a unit that gave up only 124.7 yards per game.
Even though the ‘Noles coughed up 232 ground yards to No. 2 Auburn in the BCS title game, it was the fewest the Tigers managed in their last nine games and almost 100 yards short of their average output.
Here’s a look at the early-season magic number for each AP Top 10 team in 2014—stats that have gotten each team to the top and may be the reason it stays for the long haul.
quote:
Magic Number: 449
The 449 magical passing yards Alabama hung up on Florida in Week 4’s 42-21 win offer two layers of goodness for the Crimson Tide.
First, it’s only the second time since 2000 that a Gator defense has allowed more than 400 yards through the air. The only other came in 2007 when Kentucky racked up 415 yards passing on Florida.
This makes Alabama’s achievement not just impressive, but also historic.
Next up, the 449 yards go a long way in gauging how far the Tide has come in its quarterback transition, key to a title run in the SEC and beyond.
How good were Blake Sims’ 445 passing yards and four touchdowns? They're the most of any quarterback in the Nick Saban era at Alabama.

Yes, but signing a financial aid agreement removes communication limits that colleges have with prospects. It means we can have unlimited contact with him.
It is always a good sign when a kid signs one for your school, even if he also signs one for another school (Hootie Jones signed agreements with LSU & Alabama last year)

Alabama quarterback commit Blake Barnett had his biggest game of the season, at least on the stat sheet, last night against Newhall (Calif.) Hart. In a duel with fellow Elite 11 finalist Brady White, Barnett was 31-51 for 364 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards, including a 62 yard touchdown in the 57-35 loss.

So do we have no options at linebacker for this class?

Darrell Williams, Auburn commit, is another option.

Daylon Charlot @D_4Charlot: I have to make some hard decisions
He gone
He gone

He is from a pro-LSU school. Wouldn't surprise me if he leaves. It might be a Kal Bessent/Stephen Roberts situation where we end up replacing him with someone better.
Mekhi is taking his OV to ND next weekend, but his parents will not attend. He still says that Notre Dame has the best shot to flip him, but he is 100% committed to Alabama.
Crootin' gonna croot.

If we lose Charlot, wouldn't mind Godwin at WR instead of DB.
