so some team is going to get their back up ready to play 4 games and then turn it over to BB for the rest of the year. I would assume he would be the back up all year. Probably to a team who has a senior QB

October 1 ,2017 is a Sunday.
So, he can't play til Oct.7 games, which for Bama is game 6.

From your link....

What a coincidence that we play at aTm on October 7, 2017.

I definitely agree with you. He helped recruiting a lot that year and Ridley was impressed with his cannon for an arm. I just don't get it though. The kids been there a full year red shirting and a freshman comes in and takes the job from him. When that light switch comes on, someone will have a hell of a quarterback.

The guy has serious talent and will only improve. I wish you guys would stop being so butthurt about the transfer. It's trashy.

It's not the transfer... its the quitting the team midseason. WR Preston Williams just pulled a similar stunt by withdrawing from Tennessee this week. Many of their fans have immediately labeled him as a quitter and/or a cancer to the team.

The way he left Alabama was really immature and brattish.

However despite that I still wish him well in his collegiate career.

Unless he transfers back into the SEC, then F him.

It was a business decision. He was rated one of the 2 best pro style qbs in his class and while he was redshirted at Alabama we kept hearing good things about him, in spite of the revisionist accounts of it now. It's not surprising that he thinks he has a possible future in the NFL. Evidently other people that make a living at such things think so too. The immediate interest of other programs is also a pretty good clue that he may in fact have a future getting paid to play. Obviously, if he sat on the bench most of his college career, it would affect his chances of being drafted.

If Barnett had won the position then I would have expected Hurts to transfer. There were posts on this board, preseason, that both might stay. I said then, and you can look it up, that there was no way the 2nd guy was going to sit on the bench for 3 years waiting to play. It just wasn't going to happen and given the talent of both kids, it was very unreasonable to think it would. That Barnett realized leaving now would allow him to play for a major college next season is just, as noted, a business decision, cut and dried.

The kid recruited hard for Alabama, and I like that. We're going to play another guy this Saturday that came to Alabama, copped a bitter attitude, and then dissuaded other recruits from coming, and then he transferred out. His staying at UA was actually a negative thing, or easily could have been that. Which scenario do you think was better for UA? It's a no brainer.

I understand why he did it as he could be elgible four games into the season. Just the optics of leaving mid-season don't look good.

I hate it but he had to know what he was signing up for when he came to play at Bama. Hurts just had the "it" factor....that and his mobility. I wish BB8 well as he seems basically like a good kid and I am sure he will land on a good team.

Look, I wish him the best.

But I hope he plays for a team we will play so we can whip the shite outta him.

I see nothing wrong with that.

I like Blake, seems like a genuinely good kid. I'm guessing he got some crappy advice from someone like his dad and panicked. Leaving mid-year when you are the top back-up is just bush league and he should have told whoever his advisors are to shove it until after the season.

That said, I think Blake can be good but I'm far from sold he will be elite at the college level. After watching him a good bit, the fact that he was billed as "duel threat" is laughable. The guy is long and lanky and moves about as well as any average pocket-passer. He is in no way a duel threat QB. Secondly, this throwing motion/side-arm deal is pretty bad. A good coach can work on his mechanics but there's a lot of work to be done. Hope it works out for him, but I don't ever see him living up to his hype out of HS.

Assuming the starting qb gets the majority of playing time now that we're in the SEC schedule, the 2nd guy will get only garbage time, which often means handing the ball off to a running back. So from the perspective of a player that thinks he's good enough to start most places, and hoping to play for pay someday, sitting on the bench except for garbage time is a waste of time. Then you transfer at the end of the year, and have to sit out anohher entire year if you want to play for a major college program. Now you've wasted 2 years.

The way Barnett is doing it, though, wastes much less time. He'll get more playing time this year, albeit at a jr college, and then after 4 or 5 games next season, he can play major college ball again.
Sounds like a solid plan to me. My biggest regret isn't that Barnett is doing it this way, but that it may become a regular thing, kind of like the graduate transfer rule.

edit: It's really a moot point, anyway, for UA football. Hurts beat the kid, fair and square, for the starting position at The University of Alabama, and it looks like Hurts is improving, so good for us. Play ball. uhh, football that is.

this kid sounds good in theory, but I'm really high on Kellen Mond, dual threat with a big arm.

it's hard to say "blake is afraid of competition" or anything like that because they've only got a few years to prove themselves, and considering he and hurts are the same class, blake would likely never get to play unless Jalen left early. That being said, it's obvious that in order to be successful as a QB the kid must be a natural leader, and at this point Mond seems to fit that mold better. Not to mention, being the QB at a place like IMG is a big fricking deal

Be sure to make room in the locker room for Blakes Mom and dad.

His parents will also expect to meet with the coaches daily after practice to explain why the pick 6's are not blakes fault.
