Yeah, I bet the loser for QB1 and the backend of the depth will be doing that

It seems at first like some kind of juicy statement, but literally every player in the country is using their spring game to audition. In reality it's just an obvious statement.

At least two of the QBs currently on the roster won't be come fall.

It wasn't the audition part that was the ridiculous statement. It was the statement that Jalen is going to be QB1 regardless of who the best QB actually is. Nothing DeBoer has said or done indicates he's going to play anybody but the best guy for that position.

I'd say at least one, possibly two. At least two suggests that you think Mack might potentially leave, which I don't see at all (I don't think anyone really sees him as a challenger for the starting job this fall). I don't see Lonergan bailing after spring either, unless he has clearly dropped below Mack and is told that.

Lost me at Barrett Sallee!! Dude is a Barner thru and thru!!! Wants nothing more than doom and gloom in Tuscaloosa. Also knows that the Barn doesn’t have shite at QB and will be hitting the portal hard trying to find one.

I wouldn't blame any QB on the roster for transferring if they are grading higher and have a better understanding of the offense then told they will not be the starter because the older guy is really popular.

How would you know all this?

Are we down to quoting barners who live in Georgia’s opinions now? Sallee doesn’t know his xxx from a hole in the ground about Bama.

A lot of talk out of camp is Simpson is having a great spring- I hope he and Lonergan and Mack get a fair shot... That's all I care about- getting back to the best player playing at every position. No more Dalcourts starting in front of a Jaeden Roberts because they are Sr's or popular. No more. If a guy wins a job fair and square this program has to support those players to get back to making asses quit.

I love how the mouth breathers on here always know better than the coach who the starter should be.

Especially one who crafted the offense that led Michael Penix to a Heisman and a national championship game.

It’s my hope that the coaches teach our starting Qb how to have a progression on pass plays. A bunch of wide open receivers were not seen and the ball was thrown in to coverage. The last few QBs spoiled me.

It's too bad everyone missed the point deciding to focus on the fact that Sallee is an Auburn grad which ironically is telling us how our program is being perceived around the league.

The guys at BOL had a podcast today about the same exact topic. They're not Auburn grads.

Bama now has a reputation for playing popular or senior players instead of better players.

Everyone in this thread dismissing what he is saying please explain Dalcourt starting over Roberts to me.

Explain Jam and Justice watching Roy and Jase be the most boring RB tandem since when ? Sometime during the shula years ? All the talk out of camp is "Justice will be one of the best RB's in the country." You telling me he wasn't better than Jase and Roy at the end of last season ? Pffff

Why do we hear that Brockermeyer looks great, but just a couple months ago we went into the playoffs with a fricking center that thought he was in a bowling league on Saturday nights. A center so bad I thought he may be shaving points to make money.

Explain having a QB that couldn't make the simplest of checks at the LOS, and could only throw the easiest route in football AKA the "deep ball." A guy that literally took the longest of any QB in the entire country to get the ball out because he absolutely could not process what he was looking at and led the world in drive killing 20yd sacks. He was looking to the sideline to be told where to throw the ball pre snap... SMH

Now explain how that same QB has learned a new system faster than a guy that grew up in a household with a Head Coach as a father, and has studied the game his entire life. Or, How he learned the system faster than a guy that spent last year learning the system "the fastest of anyone his age I've ever seen." -CKD

Going back to 2017 Bama had to bring the best QB in off the bench at half to save the title. Had to bring in Leatherwood off the bench. Had to bring in Najee to provide a spark.

It's become a theme that others have noticed and are probably using to negative recruit Bama.

Younger Saban played the best players- paw paw Saban played Sr's and popular guys that patted everyones arse at practice.

I dont have any problem with Milroe being the QB if he actually fixes all the holes in his game, but there were so many It's nearly impossible to imagine.

Meanwhile, If Bama rolls with Milroe extremely talented QB's that can actually make a pro system work will transfer to a different school. Does not compute.

It's pro ball now... every position on the field should be an open competition at all times.

I don't know much about perception in the league but I agree with everything else. Can't put my finger on why we failed to put the best guys on the field, even if you take QB out of the picture.

That's my only concern with Deboer thus far. I don't love what he's SAID about the QB (lack of a) competition. I think he should have come in and just outright stated that the best guy will win the job.

Now, I will say, it's starting to become obvious that he's being a little cagey with his answers. He was asked point blank in an interview yesterday if there was a QB competition. He pivoted to his standard " Milroe has only taken first team snaps" answer then politicked his way around answering anything directly.

So, he's left himself a loophole, but I think he should be direct - best guy plays.

With Milroe's "nobody believes in poor me" constant chip on his shoulder, and his public calling out of dipshit BoB, just imagine what will happen if they do decide that he's not the starter at some point. I would have made him aware from the beginning that there's a possibility he could lose his job, EVEN IF I ACTUALLY BELIEVED IT WAS A VERY SLIM POSSIBILITY. Because I don't think he believes he could lose the job.

As opposed to what? What the greatest college coach of ALL TIME did - that was the MOST successful run (with the most successful system) ever?

I don't know dude, I didn't see those guys every single day in practice, drills, and scrimmage. We see a small fraction of what the coaches see. Trying to come to some grand conclusion when you have a very small bit of observation isn't very scientific.

I suppose its the same reason why Simpson is looking like a stud as opposed to last year: its a better offensive system, with a much better offensive coach. These things obviously matter.

But he did play those guys, in the biggest game of the year. You are kind of contradicting your own point.

and when did any of what you are claiming occur from 2018-2022? If its a "theme" then you'd have more examples from the last 4/5 years that Saban was coach.

yet he led us to a 12-1 record, and was the MVP of the SECC against mighty UGA, and 2nd team all-SEC.

How many Bama players have transferred out due to playing time and then went on to light it up at another school?
