Agree with that...at least CAJ is excited, wants to be at Bama, and has won over the fan base.....I feel like wins will come although who knows what the ceiling is....

My concern about Marshall only came when it was obvious he was dragging his feet. I want a proven, great coach as much as anyone but I don't want to put a gun to their head and drag them to Tuscaloosa. That is what would've happened with Marshall.

Hiring Marshall would've generated tons of excitement and fans would've fallen in line instantly just based on the magnitude of the hire and his resume. AJ is going to win over the fanbase with his personality & energy.

Now that AJ has won the press conferance, the hard part comes. He has to develop a plan and a system to carry out that plan. Its not like he had one at his former school and is just going to incorporate it here. That's where we'll find out what kind of coach he is. Anyone can give a a ra ra speech.

I really hope he takes a wrecking ball to the Alabama Basketball program and looks at it as having to start from the ground floor. The entire program...from the jerseys, to the seating, to the support staff ...needs an overhaul.

I want the front text on the Jerseys to look more like the endzone text. Also, I'd like a winning basketball team.

What are all of your expectations for Avery for next year? by the end of his contract?

He needs to win a ring in three years, just like Saban.

But really, I want to see consistent improvement. I think we should be able to make the tournament in a couple of years. I'd like to see us in the Sweet Sixteen within a few years. Those seem like reasonable expectations.

I think we can make a move as early as next year. Were only losing Cooper and Randolph. We should have good gaurd play and Kessens and Taylor are back as well, including the kid that redshirted, cant remember his name. Kentucky is about to have a big turnover so I dont see why not

Next year? NIT with some exciting wins. The year after that all depends on who comes back and who comes in, obviously. I'm still curious as to whether he'll pursue a one-and-done approach, marketing himself and the program as NBA connected. By the end of his contract, I expect he'll be having to take three rings off of his hand just so he's comfortable enough to sign the next one.

I had Derrick McKey's uncle(helps Derrick with basketball camps)in my business today. He was excited about AJ being the coach. He said that the former players are excited and ready to come back and help the young guys learn. Ne specifically mentioned McKey, Horry, and Sprewell. He also mentioned Nate McMillian, the Admiral, and some former teammates of AJ and McKey. The plan is to get some guys in here to help develop our bigs.

I got a boner.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Not in year one. I give him a pass on anything in year one, give him time to get acclimated.

That said, I think we have some solid talent already on this team and I think he and his staff are bound to do a better job developing them than Grant did. Add CAJ's dynamic personality and any talent he can infuse into the roster, I think we could make a solid NIT run. If a few bounces go our way I could see a tourney bid with a first or second round exit.

I got the impression that they would hold some camps where these guys would come in for a few days and work with all the players.

What a recruiting tool this could be. Think about a high schooler that has the opportunity to work with Alabama and NBA legends. I think they would jump at the chance.

I'm excited about CAJ as well, and think he will be successful in making us a top 25 program again, and a staple in the tourney. That said, any coach gets a pass in year one. Saban was 6-6 in year one for pete's sake lol. After that though, I expect top 10 recruiting classes and tourney bids most every year with an occasional run in the tourney to the sweet 16 or so. Anything beyond that would be icing on the cake. With 68 teams in the tourney or whatever it is now, there really is no excuse not to be in at least 80ish percent of the time if you have a halfway decent Power5 program. I expect nothing less form CAJ!

I overheard Buck Johnson say he's excited about the hire and wants "our" basketball program to get back to what it once was. I'm sure he would help with camps if he doesn't end up on the staff.

ETA: Just throwing that out there to add to the "former player excitement" comment.

He gets a pass for Year 1 & 2...as long as things aren't a total trainwreck.

After that my expectations will be what I think is a very reasonable standard for our bball program. Basically, keep us relevant in March. Make the NCAAT 4 out of every 6 years. Make it past the 1st weekend 2 out of every 6 years. Make it to the Final Four once a decade. I don't think that is asking a lot.

I just want him to really market the program for the first year and be visible. I don't have unreal expectations for his first year.

I'm not sure that making the tourney next year is all that out of the question. We weren't that many wins away from being in the conversation this year. I would expect us to be better this year than we were last year. At least in the second half of the season. I will be disappointed if we don't make the tourney. I will be extremely disappointed if we are out of the conversation by early Jan like we have been in the recent past.

Agree with your post other than this.. I don't think you can consider it "not asking a lot" when you're asking him to do something once a decade that hasn't happened in our century of basketball history.
