That having been said it does seem like we show far more consistency when we go back to old school style football

2016 Games So Far
USC : 465 yards, 7.4 YPP
WKU : 475 yards, 5.9 YPP
Ole Miss : 492 yards, 6.2 YPP
Kent St : 502 yards, 6.3 YPP
Kentucky : 488 yards, 6.5 YPP
Arkansas : 517 yards, 10.1 YPP

2009 Games
VT : 498 yards, 6.3 YPP
FIU : 516 yards, 7.8 YPP
UNT : 523 yards, 7.2 YPP
Arky : 425 yards, 6.5 YPP
Kentucky : 352 yards, 5.2 YPP
Ole Miss : 354 yards, 5.2 YPP
USCe : 356 yards, 6.1 YPP
Tennessee : 256 yards, 4.3 YPP
LSU : 452 yards, 6.3 YPP
MSU : 444 yards, 7.7 YPP
UTC : 422 yards, 5.9 YPP
Auburn : 291 yards, 4.3 YPP
Florida : 490 yards, 6.9 YPP
Texas : 263 yards, 4.2 YPP

I'm pretty satisfied with the 2016 version of consistency, honestly. We went an entire month in which we couldn't throw the ball to save our life in 2009.

What is amazing is week in and week out when they show the total yardage and then total rushing and total passing, just how balanced the yards are.

As soon as all the defenses have converted to cover the spread passing attacks, we should start recruiting road grader o-linemen and play action QB's again. Unstoppable.

If they just keep pulling in the top recruits in the nation and playing to their strengths like we have been then we will pretty much keep on keeping on.

I must admit that a part of me wanted see BB do better and have more of a pocket passer.

But JH is fun to watch and could be special.

Imagine UA having a Heisman winner at QB with a cpl NC rings and top overall draft pick.

Because there are several teams out there that are good enough to shut a one dimensional team down.

That kind of thinking and offense got Les Miles fired.

I'm with you. I know it's unpopular, but I've always preferred the smash mouth regular offense.

No. The game has moved on. I don't want LSU or Arkansas's offense.

Arkansas doesn't even do it anymore. Burt brought in Enos because he knew he needed to be able to do more things (and it turns out they can't do it anymore anyway).

The only program in America that has continuously run that style of offense and won is Stanford. And I'm not sure that is going to continue.

LSU has the 2nd best group of athletes in American because Alabama and they couldn't do it.

Its cyclical.

I enjoy wins first. But in my perfect world Bama would be winning with a ball control, smash the ball between the tackles offense. (Honestly, in a perfect world we would be running the wishbone with tear away jerseys.)

However, the current rules favor the offense and teams have adjusted to take advantage of that. It is what it is.

I would be interested in reading the fans early opinions as Bryant switched from a pro style offense to the wishbone. I bet many fans said similar things. They liked to win but did not prefer the wishbone to the pro style.

I see nothing wrong with someone preferring one style of offense over another.

Johnny Davis? Didn't have a negative carry until his senior year. But no, I'm good with today's offense.

Yep, now one of the worst offenses in the nation with a Heisman finalist at RB. Ranked 100th or worse in all 4 major offensive categories.

It's definitely a different style of football and I'm sure I'll come around eventually. I find myself yelling at Kiffin a lot more lately, but at least it's not the "jumbo Package ". Sometimes change is good, but they'd better not go messing with our uniforms!

But all the defensive scores and quick offensive scores gets our defense gassed.

Let's take this week's game. Would you rather have Minkah down the ball instead of taking off when he sees wide open return lanes?
We scored 5 TDs on offense. The longest scoring drive was 2:02.
1st TD- Set up by 57 yard rush
2nd TD- Set up by fumble recovery on 29 yd line (this was actually the 2:02 drive too)
3rd TD- scored on 56 yard screen pass to Damien
4th TD- Started on the 34 yd line. 34 yard pass, 9 yd run, 4 yd run, 21 yd TD run.
5th TD- Set up by INT on the 18 yard line

It's not like we were really trying to score fast.

What team is deeper than Alabama?

No kidding. They have been run out of the stadium two weeks in a row now.

While I do enjoy a good dominating smash mouth game, I do not miss the days of sitting in the stands and wondering if we were about to run it up the middle...or run it up the middle.

The game has evolved and we have evolved with it.

Through six games, this has been Saban's best offense. Bama is averaging 45 points a game, which is six points better the the 13 team did in six games.

Helps a lot when the D scores every game. The D is averaging 8 points scored a game.

I meant deeper, as in deeper than Arkansas.

I'm just saying, as the game gets more out of hand like last Saturday, just pound the rock.
But getting Jalen more pass attempts is important at this point so I'll shut up.

Had a dream we went back to running alot more with a fullback and more TE passes.

Nope. Bama's 2009 offense isn't enough anymore. Saban knows it and to his credit he has adapted even if there is extra burden put on his defense in terms of TOP and number of plays.

I love that Bama's offense is so multiple and balanced and can take what the defense gives them. If you sell out to stop the run, we can pass. If you play back, we can run. If you clog the middle we can get to the outside. If you spread out we can attack the middle.

It's also nice knowing that the defense can give up 20 points (hell even 30-40 on occasion) and Bama can still win.

The thing I miss the most from those days is when we had Mike Johnson at LG and Andre Smith at LT and it was 3rd and 1. Those guys were filthy animals on short yardage and we would just line up with JPW under center and HTWMI as the single back and say we're running between those two roadgraders, mother frickers, stop it if you can. Everyone in the stadium knew it was coming and Mark would still get 2-3 yards. We seem to struggle with short yardage often these days. That's the only thing I would like to bring back: the ability to just impose our will on the defense regardless of what they did.
