Remember this clip leaking from a scrimmage and taking the Internet by storm just before Julio's freshman year. Talk about hype!

Bama just didn't have the QB to make Julio elite in college.

Julio might not have put up elite stats every single year, but he was as an elite freshman for sure, and he was an elite WR in 2010. Our passing game just wasn't explosive in 2009.

Teams had to gameplan around him pretty much every single game he played at Alabama.

Julio and Coop are both so good that it's tough to say who is actually better. The reality is that Julio became a better WR in the NFL. He had some spectacular plays, but I remember a lot of drops too. Coop may have hit his ceiling at Alabama, guess we'll see. But at this point, you'd have to say Coop was better/more polished in college, and Julio became the better pro.

I just hope Ridley can get to that level this year as a junior. We need a game changer at WR that will open up our run game and our short pass game to the TE.

Ridley was like that as a freshman. Hurts being a freshman really hurt Ridley last year.

Ridley is a great deep threat, just have to get him the ball.

Right now for sure, but it will be interesting to see how much better Coop gets. Their first two years in the NFL were somewhat similar statistically:

Julio: 133 receptions for 2,157 yards (16.21 yards per catch) for 18 TDs with 90 First Downs

Amari: 155 receptions for 2,223 yards (14.3 yards per catch) for 11 TDs with 92 first downs

Julio missed 3 games his rookie year though. Still, Julio didn't flip that switch to becoming a top 3 WR until his third year, but he only played 5 games before getting hurt and missing the rest of the season. Through those 5 games though he had clearly entered the elite WR conversation, and he's proved it in the 3 seasons since. Hopefully Amari has a similar rise.

The thing with Julio is that he's a physical freak in his own league in a league of physical freaks. Then, he became a really good technical receiver on top of that.

Coop has some insane skills, but his ceiling isn't as high as Julio's. That isn't a slight to Coop, he ceiling is still All-Pro, but he was so polished early on that there wasn't quite as high to go as Julio. Only a handful of guys in the last 25 years have the size and speed of Julio at WR, and only 1 of them was as tough and hard working as him (Calvin Johnson).

I agree for the most part. I think Coop has had consistency struggles (as many young players in the NFL do) in the latter half of his two seasons so far. He was on pace for bigger numbers early this past season, then slowed down.

But every time Amari Cooper identifies an issue (drops from Year 1 to Year 2 with Oakland) he corrects it. He's said he's gotta fix his second half slumps. He's so good at the technical aspects of the game, and he and Carr continue to gain chemistry, I think he can have a few historic seasons. He's not the huge freak that a Julio or Johnson is, but I think he's got a really special season or 2 in store for the league.

Bro, lots of WRs have had the combination of size and speed. It takes a lot more than that to get to All Pro level.

You think only a handful of guys in the last 25 years are 6'3 and run 4.3?

Ever heard of Sammie Coates? How about Breshard Perriman? Lots of guys are that big and fast.

Guys that are that big, that fast and have the quick twitch muscles and explosion that Julio has? There are always 1-2 straight line speed dudes like that in a draft, almost none of them have quick twitch abilities that rival Tavon Austin and the ability to reach max speed in 5 yards? Not to mention the stride length.

Yeah I agree with you on the quick twitch ability. But I'm talking size and speed alone, there are 1-2 guys like that in every draft.

I'm saying Julio is a lot more than just big and fast. He's quick and he's tough and he a technician. He's got possibly the best stiff arm move of any WR ever.

Oh heck yes, 100% agree. What's amazing about Julio is he has all those God given skills and is still th3 hardest working, toughest SOB in football.

I'd like to hear if Leatherwood is taking the next step at RT (we need him to.)

I won't be surprised to see Womack win the job outright at RT by the end of Summer with Leatherwood working both at RT and both guard positions.
