Damn straight! I knew Grant was bad but after seeing what Avery is doing with this team, it really puts into perspective how truly awful he was. It's so nice having an offense instead of just one guy dribbling for the entirety of the shot clock before passing it off for a shite shot. Can't wait until he brings in more talent. Buckle Up!

a new arena has worked well for the boogs. With so much construction on campus, where would you build it.

The parking lot next to Coleman. You can still keep the practice facilities for Basketball and Gymnastics. Rebuild parking lot where Coleman sits now. Would be a nightmare for parking while under construction though. Prob would have to turn law school front yard into a parking lot as well.

It makes me mad to think about the talent that Grant wasted. Think about last year's team, it was most of the team we have now plus Levi Randolph, Rodney Cooper, and Ricky Tarrant. Could've been great if he could've been a decent coach but he was terrible

Grant just seemed to suck the life out of the program.
Put a new arena downtown. Work a deal with the city and use it for concerts, events, etc.

David Hobbs = Ray Perkins
Took over for a legend, in over his head, didn't work out
Mark Gottfried = Mike DuBose
One of our own; decent assistant and damn if he didnt get us to pretty freaking good before everything fell to little tiny pieces.
Anthony Grant = Mike Shula
Great guy, excellent assistant coach, literally no energy or excitement. Flirted with quality but we slowly realized there was never any future. Wish him nothing but success in the pros.

Then we couldn't use it as a recruiting tool to bring football recruits to games, plus would hurt student attendance. I agree to a new arena is needed, but on campus. The University's athletic department can afford it.
The problem will be that $33 million we recently spent sprucing up Coleman Coliseum. You don't just bulldoze $33 million.

If we can consistently fill it and CAJ remains the awesome guy he is... we don't need a new arena.
Ok, you have a point there, wish the University would let the city make use of Coleman, we used to have campaign rallies, concerts and all sorts of fun stuff there when I went to school.

You can't bring FB recruits to a BB game in downtown Tuscaloosa?
Hurt student attendance? I said downtown Tuscaloosa not Moundville. How many students walk across campus now to attend the games now? I sure didn't. We drove and parked by Coleman.
Somehow they make it downtown to go bar hopping I believe they could do the same for a BB game.

There are good bit of students I know that walk to Coleman. Hell, I live right off the Strip, so I walk to it.
You can't do an arena downtown. There isn't enough space for one and the parking would be horrendous. I highly doubt the city council would approve of an arena downtown. It would be much better to keep everything around around Championship Plaza.

Should have built it where the baseball stadium is.

We need a new arena. Coleman is a dump. Just because Auburn isn't making the Final Four doesn't mean that building a new arena was a bad idea. If we want to show a commitment to basketball, then we have to do it soon (next 5-10 years).
I'm sure there is some solution and if it requires that we play our home games at the BJCC for a season, then so be it.

You can, but the convenience of Coleman being right next to the football offices and across the street from the Hotel Capstone is a nice benefit.
But there's not really any space downtown to put an arena. I guess you could maybe fit one near the amphitheater but there would then be no parking. It'd be a mess, both for the arena and the amphitheater.
The best spot is probably Coleman's current location. Tear it down, and rebuild. Play a season at the BJCC in the interim. I wish they had moved the baseball stadium down by the river to free up some space. Unless there's space at the old Bryce property, but haven't they started developing out there already? I haven't been in that area in some time. They're not going to take students into consideration at all when the location discussions start, so not sure why we're bringing that into discussion.

the distance from Buffalo Phil's to Coleman is almost the exact same as it is to 4th and 23rd.
Getting the city involved could help offset some of the cost

as others have said, where would you build it. I think all things like this should be on campus unless there is no more room.

Most students that would go to the games don't live near Buffalo Phil's. They live much closer to Coleman than to downtown. The student section would suffer if you move the arena off campus.
You can still get the city involved. Allow them to use it more in return for picking up some of the cost.

I don't think student attendance would suffer at all having it downtown. There are tons of bars and restaurants downtown, and it's really not that far from campus. It's not like we're talking about putting down 69 South or something.
The problem is space downtown. Unless they're willing to buy an entire block or two, or use the politically risky eminent domain, there's just nowhere to put it downtown, while still allowing for ample parking. It can be done, but I think there are better options already on campus.
